DESIGN CONSULTANT RESOURCE LIST 2007

PROJECT
The City of Fort Collins is seeking visual artists to serve as Design Consultants for city construction projects. The Art in Public Places
Program is creating a list of approved artists who can work as Design Consultants for city projects that may or may not have an independent
an budget. Design consultants selected from the resource list will work with a project team, architects, engineers, and managers to designate
opportunities for art within the project or within a separate an budget. This approach requires good collaboration skills, creativity, flexibility,
as well as an open mind. The department, design team, and APP Board will determine the extent of the design consultant's involvement in a
project. The design consultant will be paid a fee of $50 an hour for the design phase, or will be commissioned to create a piece of artwork
for the site. The APP program will use this list of artists for two years. Acceptance onto this list will not exclude the artist from submitting
and being selected for other City of Fort Collins' An in Public Places Projects.
ELIGIBILITY
This project is open artists within a 250 mile distance from the City of Fort Collins, CO. The artist must be willing to work with the selected
project team
APPLICATION MATERIALS TO BE SUBMITTED
Artists interested in being considered for the Design Consultant Resource List are requested to submit the following materials:
• one -page resume (please include design team projects)
• letter of intent (please include any past experiences in collaborative projects)
• the attached application
• sir digital images/disc representing your work six digital images representing your work Digital images should be presented on a
disc in a jpeg or tiff format compatible with a PC at 200-300 dpi. When opened, each image file should appear in the proper
orientation. Please label each image with artist's last name and image number matching the artist image tut.
• self-addressed and stamped envelope. Discs will not be returned unless requested.
Submissions must be received or hand -delivered by May 9, 2C07. Please deliver your submission to: APP Design Consultant List, City of Fort

SELECTION CRITERIA
The Art in Public Places Board and a representative of the City Purchasing Department will review applications. Submissions will be judged on
artistic excellence/technical competence and letter of intent/previous experience.

May 16, 2007
Proposal Review
Binders — Project proposal binders will be distributed to the project Selection Committee
prior to the APP board meeting. The Selection Committee is requested to review the
written proposal packets prior to the meeting. You are invited to start making notes on
your evaluation form.
Digital Image Review — Staff will show the artists' images at the board meeting. The
images represent past projects/installations. The image lists describing the works will be
in the project binders.
Individual Voting — We ask that each voting member of the Selection Committee fill out
the evaluation form prior to the group discussion. We will have time scheduled for open
discussion.
• Artistic Excellence & Technical Competence: As illustrated in an accurate
presentation of previous work through digital images, resume and references.
• Letter of Intent & Previous Experience
Citizen Input — All APP board meetings are open to the public. At that time on the
agenda we open the floor to any citizen input. They are allowed between 3 to 5 minutes
per individual. The Selection Committee can listen and respond to questions. The APP
Chairperson leads this portion of the agenda.
Break for a Light Snack — The Selection Committee and city staff will be invited to
another section of the meeting room for a light snack,
Committee Discussion — During the snack break the evaluation forms will be tabulated.
The final scores will be shared with the committee. The APP Chairperson will open the
discussion. Each Selection Committee member will be given the opportunity to discuss.
We ask that the staff resource members (none voting) speak to their areas of expertise:
maintenance, safety, etc.
Final Board Action — The APP board members make a motion and vote on the final
board action for the project.

discussion table.
■ We strive for a fair evaluation process and remind you not to use 0's on the
evaluation form. Each category of evaluation should be considered.
■ Respect other committee members' opinions.
