(possible crossover to NFPA 715) This area is considered C1D2. We also believe per code; this will also require any exhaust fans to be rated for C1 D2 where electrical components including feeder and motor be rated for C1D2. Answer: Please provide an alternate cost to replace the 4 (four) exhaust fans in question with the specified products (or equivalent) in the schedule below. 02 Question: Above is a snap from NFPA 30A. This defines the type of repair facility that this project may fall under. In short, my experience with this type of project is reviewed by AHJ for permitting and almost always brings the above-mentioned code issues to the surface. I feel these concerns could have a major impact to project pricing and I wanted to bring them to your attention prior to submitting our proposal to reduce potential cost impacts after the project has been awarded based on the drawings provided. Will this facility be considered a Major Repair Garage? Answer: No. The Design team feels that they have a code standing to argue that is not a major repair facility per NFPA 30. Additionally, multiple pre-design coordination meetings took place with PFA and the current drawings have been reviewed by PFA and the permit has been issued. Addendum # 5 10166 Transfort Maintenance Facility HVAC Improvements 03 Question: Our main concern is with the classification area C1 D2. One of my questions was confirming that NFPA 52 applied to the entire project since it is only listed on the mechanical part of the drawings. It was confirmed that it does. I also asked about the methane detection sensors not being rated to be installed in hazardous areas. The response was they will not be in the hazardous area. However, NFPA code requires methane sensors be placed within 12" of the ceiling deck. This requirement would not allow for the installation of the sensors in the drawings. I also feel it will impact some of the mechanical and electrical work for emergency ventilation. Answer: Due to the timing, please bid the gas detection per the documents. Upon award, the awarded Contractor is to make this question one of the initial RFI’s.
