Exhibit 1 – Questions and Answers
1. How tall are the removable McNichols perforated aluminum panels? Full height or just the
top 5’-0”? It appears that there is a combination of horizontal safety rails and panels.
Response: The panel shall be full height panels (2 x 5’) as the railroad does not allow any
openings bigger then 2” x 2”. Manufacturers will have to work out how to secure the panel
and handrail and still allow the panel to be removable.
2. How are the detachable aluminum panels to be attached to the bridge?
Response: Manufacturer will have to design the system and submit shop drawings for
approval.
3. What detail is provided for the interface of the panel with respect to the pipe handrail?
Response: Manufacturer will have to design the system and submit shop drawing for
approval. See responses to questions 1 & 2.
4. A custom panel that is blocked out for the attachment of the pipe handrail?
Response: City prefers not to have a custom panel, see previous responses.
5. Is there a detail for the pedestrian railing pipe caps?
Response: A standard threaded pipe cap as shown on Sheet #60 Railing Elevation,
Contractor may propose alternate details for approval.
6. What is the roof support system? We typically provide a steel gable frame and purlin
system that is field bolted to the bridge prior to erecting the structure. Is there any details
we should follow?
Response: Manufacturer to design and provided shop drawings for approval.
7. What is the roof pitch, 4/12?
Response: Correct, roof pitch to be 4/12.
8. Will there be more details/attachments for the Netting panels?
Response: No additional details will be provided. See Project Special for attachment
requirement. Contractor may propose alternate attachment for approval.
9. Is there waterproofing and underlayment beneath the metal roofing. I.E. Revised Section
509?
Response: The roofing system is to be designed by the manufacturer.
Waterproofing/underlayment is required and shall be applied to sheathing. Sheathing shall
not be a wood product. Shop drawings for the sheet metal roofing system should include
sheathing details and the underlayment for review and approval. Please see attached
Project Special Provisions contents (attached) to replace the current revisions. The
reference of Section 515 to Section 509 Sheet Metal Roofing.

10. Is there a material supplier suggested for the roofing?
Response: No.
11. The bid documents call out for Redi-Rock or Approved equal for the proposed retaining
walls. Would Recon precast modular block system be acceptable retaining wall option for
this project?
Response: All equivalent precast modular block system will be considered.
12. Are there additional specifications regarding the Railing
Response: No additional specification will be given. See Pipe Rail Details plan sheet.
13. Will a design update to Span 2, to include an overhead brace to the bridge truss be
acceptable? To meet the final design geometries and properties of the bridge, overhead
bracing is likely required. Additionally, overhead bracing running the length of the bridge will
provide an anchor point for the center of the sheet metal roof design. (See Fig. 1-Fig. 3)

14. Will horizontal safety rail be required below the handrail, as depicted in the Span 2
Elevation view on Sheet No. 46? Or should the removable, aluminum panel be assumed at
elevations below the hard rail?
Response: No, horizontal safety rail is not required as the full height removal panel opening
meets the safety opening requirement.
15. Is the intent of design to include a true, ADA compliant handrail element to the bridge or
would a more traditional rub rail be preferred? The Span 2 Elevation view on Sheet No. 46
depicts a true handrail. No additional reference to handrail or rub rail specs were noted in
the 628 – Bridge Girder and Deck Unit section.
Response: The rail shown is meant to be rub rail, matching the top rail of the handrail.
16. Would the City consider a slight extension to the bid due date so that potential bridge
suppliers may utilize all pre-bid Q&A answers once posted?
Response: The bids due date has been extended until November 22, 2024 @ 3:00 PM MST.
17. Question regarding General Conditions 3.2 – This section appears to be written as if the
plans and Contract Documents may not be complete and accurate. Are we bidding the
plans and Contract Documents, or are items missing? Are bidders expected to include a
contingency for missing items?
Response: To the best of our knowledge the Contract Documents are complete and the bid
should be per the Contract Documents. However, General Conditions 3.2 is intended to
address incidental items needed to complete the work such as concrete form work
materials, equipment, etc.
18. Question regarding General Conditions 6.4.1 – Can the City clarify expected areas of cost
increases related to its purchasing restrictions?
Response: The City does not anticipate any cost increases related to the purchasing
restriction, provided the items bid for concrete are in compliance with the purchasing
restriction resolution 91-121.
19. Question regarding General Conditions 6.4.2 – Can the City clarify expected areas of cost
increases related to its cement restrictions?
Response: The City does not anticipate any cost increases related to the purchasing
restriction, provided the items bid for concrete are in compliance with the purchasing
restriction resolution 91-121.
20. Question regarding General Conditions 6.8. Since the City can reject one or more of the
successful bidder’s subcontractors without paying the additional cost to supplement with
the next best subcontractor, does the City have a list of subcontractors it will reject?
Response: The City does not have a list of subcontractors that will be rejected but through
our bid review process and reference checks if a firm is identified as being unfit to complete
the work the City will discuss replacement with the selected Contractor.
