Dear Mr. Emmot:
I am a Professional Engineer licensed in multiple states and
have been performing structural inspections for over 5000
buildings over the last 15 years. Prior to becoming an engineer,
I experienced a full lifetime of construction, including hands on
welding experience. I offer these credentials as a basis for my
opinions herein, along with my training and experience as a
professional engineer.
On December 4, 2020 I observed the welds for the steel beams
at the garage doors of the containers at the subject project.
Based on my qualifications as a structural engineer and the
experience noted above, the welds used met my specifications, the
work was properly installed and I approve of that installation.
Per the 2015/2018 IBC, Section 1704.2.1 Special inspector
qualifications: The registered design professional in responsible
charge and engineers of record (EOR) involved in the design of
the project are permitted to act as the approved agency and their
personnel are permitted to act as the special inspector for the
work designed by them, provided they qualify as special
inspectors.
