It is our understanding that some hold downs, as shown on the design drawings provided by CTL
Thompson (project number FC07735.170, dated 12/18/2020), were installed with USP STAD14
straps rather than the Simpson STHD14 straps as shown. Additionally, one ofthe STAD14 straps is
in the fire door opening and needs replaced.
Peryour request, personnel from our office have reviewed the strength of the USP STAD14 straps
and a retrofit holdown option at the misplaced holdown.
The USP 14 strap uplift capacity is similarto the Simpson STHD14 strap and has enough strength
to resolve the design uplift at all locations on the plan. Any USP 14 straps properly installed in the
foundation do not need to be replaced.
The misplaced hold down should be cut away and be replaced with a Simpson MSTCM60 strap.
The strap shall be installed per the manufacturers specifications and be located at the location
shown on the design drawings.
As an alternative to the MSTCM60 strap, a Simpson HTT5 hold down may be installed within the
wall. The hold down should be installed per Simpson's specifications. The 5/8" diameter anchor rod
forthe HTT anchor shall be secured with Simpson SET-XP adhesive, with a minimum embedment
of 6", and a minimum edge distance of 2". Note that the HTT5 tension tie must be.attached to a
double stud. The anchor shall be installed in accordance with Simpson's installation instructions.
