Subject: Timberline Church traffic
Hi, Ted. I inserted a comment in DMS regarding Timberline Church directed at
traffic flow. I might be able to find some type of Fire Code reference under
general safety, but mostly it's just based on experience driving fire
apparatus. I have a concern about the possible increase in private passenger
vehicles leaving the church and entering Timberline. Right now, the church
hires an off -duty police officer, who stops north -south traffic on
Timberline to let dozens of church attenders out of the parking lot. (Drive.
by on Timberline on a Sunday morning when service lets out.) My concern is
the ability of the police officer to stop the cars exiting the parking lot
to Timberline when emergency vehicles are responding with lights and sirens.
The church is very close to Fire Station 10, and my fear is that the
motorists leaving the parking lot and others traveling on Timberline might
become confused if Engine 10 is running hot on Timberline through that zone,
and the police officer is on the street directing folks to do one thing,
when they might want to do another thing due to the fire apparatus or
ambulance. It's not a good situation now and I anticipate that with a larger
church, the problem would only worsen. My suggestion is that the people
leaving the church would have to use the traffic signal at Custer to access
Timberline, or even go to Drake. It would take them longer to exit, but I
think it might be safer. I think this is an issue that needs to be
discussed. With that, I'll tell you I'll be gone on March 14 when the
project is on the docket! :-) Germany calls .
