They have a number of concerns with placing a row of trees so close to the building as suggested in your redlines. Some of those concerns are that we would be unable to select a tree small enough to be so close to the building and that we would need substantially larger grates for the trees to grow successfully. Attached is their suggestion for our scenario which included a 2'-0" wide row of foundation plantings along the building to keep pedestrians further from the ground level units. This option allows for better maintenance, easier snow removal, and does not block access from the parking to the sidewalk. Regarding adding trees, we could cluster ornamental trees in the landscape islands to still have trees in this area and in the case of the alley next to the pond we could plant additional trees along the pond side which you have suggested.
