Department: Police Issue Contact: Joseph Gerdom Topic: General Number: 238 Created: 6/12/2003 Lighting: Lighting falls below minimum of 0.5fc throughout parking lot areas and adjacent to building entrance points. Also, lighting at driveway/sidewalk intersections falls below 1.Ofc needed to mitigate potential pedestrian/cycle/auto conflicts. We have the ability to increase the parking light levels to some degree but would prefer to retain lower lumens as shown on the current plan. Currently the light poles are at a pedestrian scale of twelve -foot and we do not desire add height to the poles because these fixtures are at a very livable scale (when adjacent to multi -story buildings). We do have the ability to increase the number of poles or simply increase the wattage of the bulbs. I know the Planning Department has concerns about high light levels so I am seeking some response from Planning on whether this plan is acceptable or if we can find an alternative solution. There will be wall packs/security lighting at all building entries that are not shown on the lighting plan. These security lights will increase the safety around building entrances and should appease the concerns of the police. Lastly, we will do our best to increase the lighting to 1.Ofc at the pedestrian/auto conflict areas. Again, either increasing the wattage of the bulb or adding poles will do this. What is Planning's stance on increased light levels in parking lots? Does the plan suffice as it currently stands?
