The Contractor shall inform the Structural Engineer, clearly and explicitly in writing of any deviation or substitution from requirements of the contract documents. Contractor shall not be relieved of any requirement of the contract documents by virtue of the Structural Engineer's review of shop drawings, project data, etc., unless the Contractor has clearly and explicitly informed the Structural Engineer in writing of any deviations or substitutions at time of submission. DESIGN CRITERIA 1. Design Codes and Criteria for Construction: o. AASHTO b. Colorado Deportment Of Transportation, c. City of Fort Collins 2. Superimposed Gravity Loading: PER SHEET S2.00 J. All references ore latest edition unless noted otherwise. EXISTING CONSTRUCTION 1 Information on existing construction taken from drawings provided by Jonathan Sweet, P.E. Jim Sell Design, Inc. 153 West Mountain Ave. Fort Collins, CO 80524 Phone: (970) 484-1921 Fax: (970) 484-2443 All information, dimensions, elevations, etc. shall be considered approximate and shall 2, be field verified by contractor prior to ordering and/or fabricating material. 3. Report all discrepancies to the Construction Manager and Engineers. In as much as the addition, remodeling, retrofit, renovation or rehabilitation of on 4. existing building requires that certain assumptions ore made regarding existing conditions. The contractor must immediately notify the structural engineer If any existing condition deviates from those indicated in the contract documents. Contractor shall verify all existing conditions prior to ordering materials or proceeding 5. with new work in areas affected by existing conditions. Structural Engineer shall be informed in writing of conflicts between existing and proposed new construction. No openings nor any changes or additions shall be made in any existing structural elements 6. without written approval of the Structural Engineer. Where the function of on existing element as structural or non-structural is unclear, the determination of its function will be mode solely by the structural engineer. GEOTECHNICAL NOTES 1. Presumed bearing value of soil is to be confirmed at time of construction. See Foundation Note 1. 2. Bearing values are based upon telephone conversation with Lester Litton, P.E. Earth Engineering Consultants, on March 1, 2007 and letter dated May 24, 2007 project 1062104. See foundation Note 2. J. Provide free -draining sub grade preparation per 2/S1.00 per geotechnical recommendations. FOUNDATIONS 1. SOILS ENGINEER: I. Provide on open excavation inspection by a geotechnical engineer licensed in Colorado. Geotechnical engineer shall prepare a letter report confirming presumed soils criteria prior to construction of foundations. Do not construct work until confirmation of presumed criteria has been received by Structural Engineer. A copy of the letter of confirmation shall be submitted to the City. 2. Foundation and retaining walls have been designed for the following assumed design pressures: i. Presumed Bearing Pressure 2000 psf, 0 minimum I1. Active Pressure 45 psf/ft iil. At Rest Pressure 60 psf/ft iv. Passive Pressure 250 psf/ft V. Friction Coefficient 0.35 J. See sheet S2.00 for box culvert sections and notes. 4. All fill material shall be compacted in accordance with recommendations of COOT. Measurement and payment provisions do not apply. Contractor shall include cost of COOT specified backfill materials in the cost of the work. 5. Provide shoring and protection from the elements for excavation bottoms and sides as required to promote safety, prevent caving and washing, and to prevent undercutting of footings after they have been placed. 6. Brace all foundation walls against which backfill is to be placed until floor slabs at the top and bottom of the wall are in place. 7. Contractor shall provide continuous site drainage by a mechanical method to control surface and underground water as required to maintain a dry working site. MISCELLANEOUS NOTES 1. Means and methods of construction and erection of structural materials are solely the Contractor's responsibility. 4. The structure is designed to function as a unit upon completion of construction of the project and then, only to support the design loads indicated. The contractor is responsible for means, methods and sequence of construction and the adequacy of the structure to support lads occurring during construction of the project. Furnish all temporary bracing, shoring, ono/or support as may be required. 5. No openings or any change in size, dimension or location shall be made in any structural element written approval of the Structural Engineer, 6. Show all openings through structural members on shop drawings and submit for review. Openings not shown on structural drawings ore subject to acceptance and shall be specifically indicated for review and acceptance. 7. No structural modifications, alterations, or repairs shall be made without prior review by Structural Engineer. Submit details. SUBMITTALS 1. Manufacturers Data: Submit two (2) copies of manufacturer's specifications and installation instructions for each product specified. Indicate by transmittal form that a copy of each instruction has been distributed to the appropriate contractor. 2.
