On November 13, 2015 1 visited the referenced site as requested. The purpose
of this visit was to determine the feasibility of cutting a new window in the
basement wall.
The structure is a wood framed residence with 8" thick concrete basement
walls.
The new window is to be 60" wide by 60" tall and located in the south wall of
the basement near the east end. The floor joists and roof are supported on the
south wall.
Based on the proposed window and existing construction it is my opinion it is
feasible to cut the window in the .proposed location. Approximately 12" of
concrete is to remain in place over the window. A double angle lintel (2)
L5"x31/2"x1/4" (long leg vertical) is required over the opening. The lintels should
be supported on a 2x8 treated trimmer each side of the opening.
GENERAL COMMENTS
This report has been prepared based on observations of the portions of the
structure visible and with generally accepted engineering practices in the area.
