As requested I have reviewed the requirements for removing a portion of the
following bearing wall between the kitchen and dining area at the referenced
site.
DISCUSSION & RECOMMENDATIONS
The structure is a wood frame residence with a basement foundation
An approximate 101/2' opening between the kitchen and dining area is planned.
The wall supports the trusses over the kitchen. Based on the span and design
load it is recommended a (2)-1 3/4"x 9 1/2" beam be used at the opening. The
beam should be supported on a 2-2x4 post at each end. Solid blocking should
be provided in the joist space below over the top of the existing basement
beam.
GENERAL COMMENTS
This report has been prepared based on observations of the portions of the
structure visible and with generally accepted engineering practices in the area.
