January 16, 2012 The Pauls Corporation 270 St. Paul Street Denver, Colorado 80206 Attn: Mr. Landon Williams Re: Foundation Footing Observation Lot 45 — Harmony Ridge Fort Collins, Colorado EEC Project No. l 1-01-288 Mr. Williams: Earth Engineering Company, Inc. (EEC) personnel have completed the construction observation services you requested for the referenced project. Those services included an observation of the foundation footing dimensions placed for the referenced address. The results of the site observations completed by EEC personnel are included with this report. On December 27, 2011, EEC personnel observed footing foundation widths for the foundation footings for the above referenced single-family residence. The garage and crawlspace footings were approximately 16 and 36 inches wide by 10 inches thick at various locations. The basement footings were approximately 16, 22 and 36 inches wide by 10 thick at various locations. Two #4 bars were placed horizontally and continuous throughout the length of the footings. The basement pads observed were approximately 34 inches by 34 inches by 12 inches thick and 39 inches by 39 inches by 12 inches thick. Four #4 bars were in position to be placed horizontally each way in the pads. At the time of our observations, it appeared that the foundation footing dimensions and observed reinforcing steel had been placed in general accordance with the construction plans prepared by Dossey/Sudik Structural Engineers (Plan No. 6) dated October 21, 2011. As requested, Earth Engineering Company, Inc. (EEC) personnel have completed an observation of the foundation bearing materials for footing foundations for the referenced project. The results of those observations along with site photos are included with this report. On December 16, 2011, EEC personnel observed foundation bearing materials for the foundation footings for the referenced residence. We understand the residence will be a lightly loaded wood frame structure constructed on a partial basement. At the time of our field observations, part of the building area had been excavated to approximate foundation -bearing elevation. The garage footing foundation bearing level was at a depth of approximately 4'/z feet below original grade. Reddish brown clayey sand and gravel materials with cobbles were observed at foundation bearing level at that location. The crawlspace footing foundation bearing level was at a depth of approximately 4 to 4%2feet below original grade. Reddish brown sandy to very sandy clay soils with gravel were observed at foundation bearing level at that location. The materials observed in the basement excavation area exposed generally consisted of reddish brown sandy clay soils. Calibrated hand penetrometer tests indicated that the in -situ sandy clay soils were very stiff in consistency and the sand and gravel materials were generally dense in consistency. Earth Engineering Company, Inc. (EEC) personnel have completed the construction observation services you requested for the referenced project. Those services included an observation of foundation wall reinforcement steel for the referenced residence. The results of the observations completed by EEC personnel are included with this report. On January 5, 2012, EEC personnel observed the reinforcing steel for the foundation walls for the referenced residence. The reinforcing steel observed at the garage foundation walls consisted of two 45 bars placed horizontally at the top and bottom of the walls. The reinforcing steel observed at the basement foundation walls consisted of two #5 bars placed horizontally at the top and bottom of the foundation walls. One #4 bar was placed vertically and horizontally at approximately 12 inches on -center throughout the length and height of the basement walls. Lap lengths observed were checked and appeared to meet the minimum required lengths. In addition to the reinforcing steel observed, the Uffer ground (a.k.a. concrete encased electrode) was also observed. The Uffer grounding rod consisted of a single piece of #4 rebar tied to the bottom horizontal reinforcement within the forms and extended approximately 1 foot above the foundation wall at the northwest corner area of the garage.
