On February 17, 2011 1 visited the referenced site as requested. The purpose of this visit
was to determine the feasibility of cutting a window in the basement wall.
The house is a one story brick structure with a full basement. The basement walls are
concrete estimated to be 8" wide.
The new window is to be 30 '/2" wide by 40 '/2" tall placed in the location of existing 32" wide
by 17" tall windows in the east basement wall. The east wall does not support floor or roof.
There is an existing double steel angle lintel over the existing opening supporting the main
level brick wall.
Based on the proposed window and existing construction it is my opinion it is feasible to cut
the window in the proposed location. Since the opening is not to be widened and the
existing double angle lintel is adequate to support the brick wall a supplemental header is
not required.
