EARTH ENGINEERING
COMPANY, INC.
As you requested, on October 12, 2004, Earth Engineering Company, Inc. (EEC)
personnel provided construction observation services for the referenced project. During
that time period, drilled pier foundations were being constructed for the referenced
single-family residence. Construction observation services were provided by EEC
personnel on a part-time basis and included observations of the pier drilling operation and
observation of pier steel reinforcement. Results of the field observations completed by
EEC personnel during the referenced period are included with this report.
On October 12, 2004, EEC personnel observed the drilling operations for the caisson
foundations. Items observed by EEC personnel included plumbness of the drilled shafts,
stratification of soils and bedrock encountered, caisson length, cleanliness of the bearing
surface and difficulties encountered during excavation. The materials encountered in the
pier borings observed consisted of sandstone/claystone materials to the depths observed.
The pier hole bottoms appeared relatively clean with minimal water infiltration observed.
The drilled shafts appeared plumb, were approximately 10 inches in diameter and
extended to depths of approximately 20 feet below the basement foundation excavation
level along with 20 feet of penetration into the sandstone/claystone bedrock. Shear ring
placement was also observed at approximately 2 feet on center for the lower 14 feet of
the piers. At the time of our observations, three #5 bars were placed full depth in the
piers; however, concrete placement was not observed at that time. The observed pier
excavations and rebar placement appeared to be in general accordance with the
construction plans prepared by DSI, Plan No. 3073228162.

Re: Foundation Drain and Damp Proofing Observation
926 Pinnacle Place
Fort Collins, Colorado
EEC Project No. 04-01-271
Mr. Schroeder:
As requested, Earth Engineering Company, Inc. (EEC) personnel have completed the
construction observation services you requested for the referenced project. Those services
included an observation of the foundation drain and damp proofing placement at the
referenced lot. The results of those observations along with site photos are included with
this report.
On October 22 and October 25, 2004, EEC personnel observed the foundation drain for
the referenced project. The foundation drain consisted of 4-inch flexible perforated pipe
placed around the below grade exterior perimeter of the structure. Various locations were
spot checked and measured from the bottom of the foundation wall to determine slope
and the drain appeared to slope toward the basement sump pit. Filter fabric and 3/4 inch
gravel was on -site to be placed at a later date. The damp proofing consisted of grey
spray -on coating that appeared to cover all exterior below grade areas of the basement
walls.
Based on the observations completed as outlined above, the foundation drain and damp
proofing appeared to have been installed in accordance with the construction plans.

Fort Collins, Colorado
EEC Project No. 04-01-271
Mr. Schroeder:
EARTH ENGINEERING
COMPANY, INc.
Earth Engineering Company, Inc. (EEC) personnel have completed the construction
observation services you requested for the referenced project. Those services included
observation of the foundation wall reinforcing steel placed for the referenced residence.
The results of the reinforcing steel observations completed by EEC personnel are
included with this report.
On October 19, 2004, EEC personnel observed the placement of the foundation wall
reinforcing steel for the referenced single-family residence. The reinforcing steel being
placed in the garage and basement walls generally consisted of two #5 bars placed
horizontally at the top and bottom of the walls. In addition, #4 rebar was placed
horizontally and vertically spaced at approximately 18 inches on center each way
throughout the height and length of both the garage and basement walls. Lap lengths
were checked and appeared to meet the minimum required lengths.
At the time of our observations, it appeared that the wall reinforcing steel had been
placed in general accordance with the construction plans prepared by DSI, Plan No.
F408, dated July 20, 2004.
