Terracon Project No. 20041025
Dear Ms. Klahn:
Soils/Earthwork
At the request of Colorado Structures, Inc., Terracon reviewed the test data and observation
reports for the above referenced project. Monitoring by Terracon was provided at the direction
of Colorado Structures, Inc. and generally consisted of field density tests, and spread footing
foundation observations. Our foundation observation services on the project building utilized
the project plans, specifications and the Geotechnical Engineering Report recommendations
(File No. 30860) performed by Kleinfelder, Inc. (dated October 20, 2003).
As recommended in the soils investigation, on -site or approved imported soils were suitable for
placement during construction. Laboratory tests indicated backfill material observed by
Terracon met the recommendations as outlined in the geotechnical report. The results of the
field and laboratory testing were forwarded for review. In addition, the on -site superintendent
and subcontractors were informed on a daily basis of the test results performed.
Terracon performed 218 in -place density/compaction tests (through June 15, 2004) for the site
infrastructure and building foundation backfill during construction of the project. The tests at the
locations indicated met or ultimately achieved (after retesting) the compaction specification
requirements and/or geotechnical report recommendations. Terracon personnel provided
testing during time periods as requested by Colorado Structures, Inc. personnel. Based upon
the tests and observations performed, results indicate suitable materials and specified
compaction at the locations tested. A Summary Density Report is enclosed for your review and
reference.
Our test results represent only the materials at the location and time of testing. Terracon did
not direct nor control the fill placement and compaction at the site and does not assume
responsibility for the placement, compaction or control of the fill materials. Areas of fill which
are not representative of our testing may exist, particularly in common fill areas such as slopes
or landscaped outside of proposed construction. The foundation type and specific design for
each structure will be recommended based on the particular characteristics of the soil type at
foundation depth, and on the basis of further evaluations and observations prior to construction.

Compliance Summary

Concrete _ ..
The Portland cement concrete placed and tested on -site consisted of 39 tests for physical
property and compressive strength tests for the foundation footings, walls and slab -on -grade
(through June 14, 2004). The reports indicate the specified minimum compressive strength
requirements as referenced in the project specifications and/or reported by Colorado
Structures, Inc. for the project have been achieved, or will meet at the age of 28-days.
Reinforcing Steel
Terracon provided reinforcing steel placement observation in structural concrete placements as
requested. The observations performed were observed to be in compliance per the provided
plans and specifications for the project and have been formally reported to the client and
designated parties. It is recommended that the project structural engineer review the test
reports for acceptance as meeting the project criteria.
Masonry
Test samples of mortar (8), grout (9) and masonry prism assemblage samples (3) were
obtained for compressive strength testing. Test results have met or exceeded the required
minimum strength specified for the project with the exception of 1 mortar compressive strength
(Report No. 20041025.0109, Set 8M) with 1,860 psi average 28-day strength. The required
strength is 2,000 psi and is awaiting a 56-day test on July 19, 2001; report attached. In
addition, masonry observation of construction procedures was provided by Terracon and
reported verbally on -site and in written format. It is recommended that the project structural
engineer review the test reports for acceptance as meeting the project criteria.
Structural Steel
Inspex ndt. provided structural steel/weld site construction observation. Observations were
provided to on -site personnel at the time of the visit with a written report as documentation.
Terracon is awaiting the final inspection/observation report to address outstanding deficiencies
noted during the last site visit. It is recommended that the applicable project structural engineer
review the observation reports for acceptance as meeting the project criteria upon receipt of the
reports.
Foundation
Terracon provided observation of the foundation spread footing foundation(s) excavations as
requested during construction. A summary of the observations and recommendations were
provided in written reports upon completion. Per Kleinfelder, Inc. geotechnical report, project
plans/drawings provided and observations performed and reported, the spread footings that
Terracon observed have been placed in general accordance with the plans and specifications
and were placed on the anticipated bearing material identified in our geotechnical report.
