Howes P.O. Box 503 Fort Collins, Colorado 80521-0503 (970)484-0359 Fax: (970) 484-0454 On December 11, 2001, a representative from Terracon observed the foundation excavation for the referenced lot, as requested. The soil conditions exposed within the upper foundation level consisted of sandy lean clay, and at the lower foundation level claystone/bedrock was observed. These soil and/or bedrock conditions are similar to those encountered in Earth Engineering Consultants Inc. (EEC) "Geotechnical Engineering Report", project No. 1992129. Based on our observations, it is our opinion the structure should be supported by a grade beam and straight shaft drilled pier/caisson foundation system designed in accordance with the recommendations set forth in the EEC Geotechnical Engineering Report. At the time of the observation, no groundwater was encountered within two feet of the basement foundation level. However, based on recommendations set forth in the EEC Geotechnical Engineering Report, it is our opinion a dewatering system should be placed around the lower level of the structure. The drainage system should be designed and constructed in accordance with the recommendations set forth in the report. rSinceO Revie oskinson David ICBO Inspector Geote Copies to: (2) Addressee o P 1 er, P.E. cal Engineer/Department Manager Arizona ■ Arkansas ■ Colorado ■ Georgia ■ Idaho ■ Illinois ■ Iowa ■ Kansas ■ Kentucky ■ Minnesota ■ Missouri ■ Montana Nebraska ■ Nevada ■ New Mexico ■ Oklahoma ■ Tennessee ■ Texas ■ Utah ■ Wisconsin ■ Wyoming Quality Engineering Since 1965
