Gentlemen:
Terracon observed construction features related to the basement slab at the referenced site on
November 5, 1998. Specifically, our observations indicate the following features are in general
accordance with floor slab recommendations in our Geotechnical
the subdivision on September 12, 1994 (Project No. 20945121):
walls, 2) positive separations and/or isolation joints between
columns and plumbing and 3) contraction joints in the slab.
Sincerely,
TERRACON

Gentlemen:
Terracon observed the perimeter drain at the referenced site on August 21 and 24, 1998. Four
inch diameter, perforated PVC pipe was observed around the exterior perimeter of the basement
foundation. The drainage pipe exhibited positive drainage toward the sump in the southeast corner
of the basement. Maximum 1 Yrinch washed aggregate was observed above the pipe. The gravel
extended three inches above the pipe at the time of our first site visit and 12 inches above the pipe
at the time of our second site visit. Layers of filter fabric were observed beneath the pipe and
above the gravel.
In addition, the void forms were observed to be in good condition at the time of our site visit.
Sincerely,
TERRACON

Project No. 20975113
Gentlemen:
On September 24, 1998, Terracon observed the foundation excavation for the referenced project.
The exposed soil at the upper level is sandy lean clay. Sandy lean clay over sandstone bedrock
was observed at the lower foundation level. These materials are similar to materials described in
our Geotechnical Engineering Report prepared for the subdivision (see Project No. 20945121
dated September 12, 1994). Based on our observations, it is recommended that the structure be
supported by a spread footing foundation system designed in accordance with the
recommendations set forth in the geotechnical engineering report.
Since bedrock was encountered within 2 feet of the basement foundation level, it is our opinion a
dewatering system should be placed around the basement foundation. Specifically, a Type A
perimeter drain is recommended at this site.
Sincerely,
TERRACON
