This is a Home Occupation for a Beauty Shop, a one chair shop and they are
wanting to omit the ramp as stated by Mr. Samson. He stated Ms. Barela had
been a beauty operator for six years and that wheelchair customers did not
come into a shop, the operator goes to them. It is an appointment only
operation. MOTION MADE by Chuck Onstad to accept the application for a
variance based on the fact that it be a one chair operation, one person
operation and it involves a small amount of space. SECONDED by Mr. Miller.
Unanimous.
APPEAL #220 - Application made by Joe Vansant on behalf of self for a
variation from the .requirements of the Uniform Building
Code Section 3302 (a) so as to permit one stairway to the
adjacent floor from the messanine which is over 60 feet
in length. ADDRESS: 4201--R4verside Avenue
The Code requires a second stairway after 60': Mr. Vansant stated the whole
second story is 1001. Mr. Greenwood stated it was a second story not a
mezzanine. Two exits are required. After some discussion and looking at
the plans Mr. Vansant.presented, MOTION MADE by Mr. Hollar to reject the
appeal because of the lack of justification for a variance. SECONDED by
Harold Miller. UNANIMOUS FOR REJECTION.
APPEAL #221 - Application made by Dennis Sovick on behalf of self for
a variation from the requirements of the Uniform Building
Code Section 504 and Section 1404 - ,to delete one hour
separation and allow for adjoining light and non=ventilated
rooms. ADDRESS: 61"6.Cherry_St:
Mr. Sovick presented plans to the Board. The living room does not have
ventilation or light. The glassed in areas would not permit the 1-hr. separation.
This is an actual greenhouse.and would be classified like a garage is the reason
,.for the requirement for the 1-hr. separation. Mr. Sovick stated he would heat.
with a wood stove and has central air conditioning. Mr. Lumbert felt this was
a dangerous situation. Mr. Allen stated we would be sending to the International
Conference of Building officia s for recommendations. Mr. Brenner felt the
appeal needed to be tabled as it did not feel right approaching the situation L_ -
without more potential openings. Mr. Hollar questioned if they were willing,,
to meet the requirement of exiting and ventilation, was the classification of
a greenhouse real? Mr. Brenner felt it was dangerous as it could be made into
a storeroom with storage of a lawnmower and gasoline. Mr. Hollar felt a

window to replace the one they are losing would be ok as the 1—hr separation
did not bother him. The Board was not in favor of a mechanical venting system,
MOTION MADE by Mr. Hollar'to accept the variance, assuming ventilation require—
ments are met, EXCEPT require the vent to be provided in living room in
accordance with the code with the approval by the Building Inspection Department.
SECONDED by Mr. Onstad. UNANIMOUS.
