Subject: Recommendations for new basement egress window lintels.
Eleanor,
The basement egress windows in your house at the above address require lintels to
support the structure above. There are many ways of providing support, but it appears
your simplest solution is to provide flat steel plates that span the rough framing on each
side of the recently installed windows. Each plate should be 8" wide and 1/2" thick. The
east and west basement walls are the only windows where the steel plate is required, but I
would recommend that the 2x10 in the top of the window opening in the south wall be
supported on the vertical side members rather than just screwed into the floor sill plate
above as it is now.
If some arrangement other than the recommended steel plates above the windows
is preferred, 1 can make other recommendations.
