Dear Mr. Fawcett,
Shear Engineering Corporation was present during caisson drilling and
concrete placement for the above referenced site an Wednesday, January 23,
1991. The soils within the excavation were noted at this time. The soils
noted at the bottom of the basement excavation, consisted,primarily of
claystones and weathered claystones. Silty, sandy clays were located above
the claystones. There were topsails located in the upper levels of the
excavation. The sails are generally consistent with those noted by
CTL/Thompson, Inc. in their "Soils and Foundation Investigation, Willow
Park Subdivision, Phase II", CTL/Thompson Project No: 9807, dated February
2, 1984. A caisson type foundation was recommended for this lot.
Caisson construction was in accordance with the foundation plan for this
lot which was designed by Shear Engineering Corporation and drawn by
Anderson Associates Architects. No water intrusion to any of the drilled
holes was noted. Concrete was consistently placed immediately after
drilling.
