Dear Mr. Hovland:
JVA, Inc. has prepared this letter in response to the `Plan Review Comment Letter' issued by your office on
December 23, 2013. The comments are based on your review of the construction documents issued for permit
for the referenced project dated October 25, 2013.
Comment 2. Structural plans were designed to the wrong occupancy category. A hospital with an ER must be
designed to a category 4. Submit corrections.
Response: The Design Loads section of Structural General Notes on sheet SO.02 of the Construction
Documents presents the correct and appropriate Occupancy Categories and associated load factors
used for.the design ofstructural systems,for the referenced project.
For the outpatient Clinic west of the expansion joint between lines Z3 and Z4, an Occupancy
Classification ofBusiness Group B and Storage Group S-2 was assigned, resulting in a Occupancy
Category of1I (2) being used for the design of all structural elements and systems in that part ofthe
building.
For the Hospital & Central Utility Plant east of the expansion joint between lines Z3 and Z4, an
Occupancy Classification ofinstitutional Group 1-2, High -Hazard Group H-3, and Storage Group S-
2 was assigned, resulting in a Occupancy Category of IV (4) being used for the design of all
structural elements and systems in that part of the building.
