We respectfully request to have an allowable area of a mezzanine be increased to 70%. With this increase we would also offer to install a 1-hour fire partition to separate 75% of the area at the mezzanine level. Leaving only 25% of the mezzanine open to the area below. For our condition the percentages above are equal to the following square footages: Area on level four that is open to mezzanine level = 570 square feet. Area on mezzanine level separated by 1-hour fire partition = 299 square feet (52%) Area on mezzanine level open to area below = 100 square feet (18%) Total mezzanine area of 399 square feet With the additional 1-hour separation at the mezzanine level, as well as the fact that apartment 402 is separated from the remainder of the building with 1-hour fire partitions, this additional 114 square foot does not decrease the safety of the project. It is at least the equivalent of that prescribed in the 2009 IBC in quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability and safety.'
