ENGINEERING P.M.B. 344 CORPORATION 1001 A East Harmony Road Ft. Collins, Colorado 80525-3354 Re: Lots 94-97, Harmony Ridge P.U.D.; Fort Collins, Colorado 4615 Dusty Sage Drive 4 Dear Mr. Rutt, Shear Engineering Corporation conducted foundation excavation observations for the above referenced address on Thursday, September 8, 2005. The soils noted at the bottom of the basement excavation consisted primarily of slightly clayey sands and gravels. The soils noted at the bottom of the walkout excavation also consist primarily of slightly clayey sands and gravels. The soils noted at the bottom of the upper garage footing excavation consisted primarily of silty sandy clay. The soils noted in the excavation are generally consistent with the soils profiles provided by Earth Engineering Consultants, Inc. in the geotechnical investigation report for Harmony Ridge P.U.D. titled "Subsurface Exploration Report, Harmony Ridge P.U.D., Fort Collins, Colorado"; EEC project number 1972027; report dated May 5, 1997. Due to separation requirements from claystone noted in the geotechnical investigation report for Harmony Ridge P.U.D., a test hole was dug to three feet (T) below the basement excavation. Claystone bedrock was not noted in the test hole. Boring Logs B 12 and B 13 were the nearest borings taken to this site. Boring Log B 12 indicated silty clay with gravel to a depth of two feet (T), underlain by silty clayey sand to a depth of nine feet (9'), underlain by sand to a depth of fifteen feet ( 15'), underlain by highly weathered claystone to a depth of twenty-one feet (21'), the bottom of the boring. Boring Log B 13 indicated silty clay with to a depth of two feet (2'), underlain by sandy silt to a depth of five and one half feet (5.5'), underlain by sand and gravel to a depth often feet (10'), underlain by sandy lean clay to a depth of fifteen and one half feet (15,5'), underlain by coarse sand and gravel to a depth of twenty and one half feet (20.5'), the bottom of the boring. This lot is suitable for a spread footing foundation system. The foundation plan for the proposed residence prepared by Shear Engineering Corporation, dated April 2005 (latest revision date: 09/15/2005) was used. Footings were originally designed for a maximum allowable bearing capacity of 1,500 pounds per square foot (dead load plus full live load) and a minimum dead load of 500 pounds per square foot according to the recommendations of the geotechnical investigation report. Those bearing capacities were actually for fill conditions. Due to the actual undisturbed nature of the footing bearing soils, footings were redesigned for a maximum allowable bearing capacity of 2,500 pounds per square foot (dead load plus full live load) and a minimum dead load of 500 pounds per square foot according to the recommendations of the geotechnical investigation report for undisturbed soils. 4836 S. Shear Engineering Corporation was present on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 and Wednesday, September 26, 2005 for foundation wall reinforcing placement observations. These observations were made to confirm that all footing formwork and footing reinforcing placement, and foundation wall reinforcing placement were completed in substantial compliance with the direction, details and specifications noted on the foundation plan. All footing formwork and footing reinforcing placement, and foundation wall reinforcing placement were completed in substantial compliance with the direction, details and specifications noted on the foundation plan. Shear Engineering Corporation was present on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 and Wednesday, November 2, 2005 for perimeter drain installation and foundation wall dampproofing observations. Perimeter drain installation observations were made to confirm that perimeter drain installation was completed in substantial compliance with the direction, details and specifications noted on the foundation plan and in substantial compliance with the recommendations of the geotechnical investigation report. All perimeter drain installation was completed in substantial compliance with the direction, detail and specifications noted on the foundation plan and with the recommendations of the geotechnical investigation report referenced. Dampproofing observations were made to confirm that dampproofing material and application was completed in substantial compliance with ASTM D-449 Type II and ASTM D-41 specifications and the federal specification SS-A-701. Dampproofing (DECO 20) was applied to the exterior face of concrete basement walls that retain earth and enclosed habitable space. The dampproofing was applied from the top of the footing to the assumed finished grade elevation. Dampproofing coating material and application (DISSCO 521) meets the ASTM D-449 Type II and ASTM D-41 specifications and the federal specification SS-A-701.
