Re: Steel Hanger Observation and Analysis

Dear Mr. Zoetewey:
At your request this office observed the steel hanger that is supporting the North end of the W8X24
steel beam that supports the main floor joists on the East end of the house, where the back of the
house is facing East. The hanger was installed with two 3 '/z inch by 3 '/2 inch by `/4 inch steel angles
welded together to form, at one end, a bearing seat for the steel beam and on the other end a top
flange that is bearing on top of the 3-ply 14 inch laminated veneer lumber header. The steel beam
is welded to the angle bearing seat, and at the top flange three '/z-inch diameter by 4 inch long lag
screws extend through the steel angle and penetrate the header. Please refer to the attached
pictures. Analysis indicates that the installed hanger is adequate for the anticipated loads that
may be applied to it.
