Grant Dear Mr. & Mrs. Wyman: On Monday, August 22, 1988 Elmer Walston and I inspected the construction around the furnace and water heater. This work has been done withnnt a permit, and is constructed illegally. The problems are that the combustible materials are too close to the furnace and water heater according to the 1985 Uniform Mechanical Code, Section 504, which states that combustible materials shall not be installed closer than what is listed on the name plate or manufacturer's installation instructions for the furnace. The 1985 Uniform Plumbing Code,Section 1311 (e), "Access and Working Space for Water Heaters", states that there will be not less than a 30" deep by 36" wide working space immediately in front of the firebox access opening. Your water heater and furnace do not comply with these sections of the Mechanical and Plumbing codes. Also, according to the Uniform Mechanical Code, Section 601 (b) and Section 911, combustion air needs to be brought in from the outside and the draft diverter needs to draw air from the furnace room only. These problems do require immediate attention due to zero clearance from combustion and the fire hazard that is created. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. cerel/y/, tt DanI. tnnYoun, J ' Inspector Supervisor Certified #P 686 801 356 --- -- _..- ..— . -„^ -, - I uu .unu, wiuraao ouDee • (JVd) Z21.6/6U
