Re: Home Remodel at 925 Arbor Ave. / Beam Check and Resizing in the Sun
Room area.
S & A Project No. 0821
Dear Sir
The undersigned made an on site visit to the house on July 23, 2008 and viewed
the extent of the affected area and support beam requirements at that time.
We determined that one approach to solving the support problem would be to
remove the existing beam (which spans one half the required distance) with one
that would span the nominal distance of 24 feet, from bearing wall to the outside
bearing wall.
The actual loading is not great and an analysis has determined that a double 11-
7/8 microllam would be adequate for the span loading. Solid stud under the beam
and provide 3-1/2 inch bearing at each end.
Field frame the required roof rafters and ceiling elements to match into the
existing, adjacent room. The existing perimeter foundation wall and footings are
adequate for the small load increments added by the revised wall framing and
beam loading. Hurricane clip the roof rafters to the microllam.
Yours truly,
