Re: Residence, 825 Smith Street Fort Collins, Colorado Project No. 2094-6041 Dear Mr. Yoder: On March 4, 1994, and engineer from Empire Laboratories, Inc. visited the above -referenced site as requested. The purpose of this visit was to render an opinion based upon visual observations regarding the feasibility of placing new basement windows on the north and south walls of the foundation. It is our understanding that 1-41x4f basement window is to be cut in the location of an exising 37 inch wide by 21 inch tall basement window on the north basement wall near the northwest corner. It is recommended that one steel angle 32 x 32 x Ott be placed across the top of the opening to support the loads above. The angle should bear on the concrete, each side of the window opening or on a 2x4 each side of the opening. We also understand that a 32 inch tall by 5 foot, 4 inch wide window is to be placed on the south basement wall in the location of an existing window which measures 37 inches wide by 27 inches tall. The basement wall at this point has an 18 inch ledge 36 inches below the floor system. It is our understanding the window is to be placed above this 18 inch ledge. It is recommended that two steel angles 3zx3Zx4 be placed over the approximate 5 foot 4 inch wide opening. The angle should bear on the concrete foundation each side of the opening or on a 2x8 placed on each side of the opening.
