Dear Richard:
At your request. Empire Laboratories. Inc. observed the beginning of
caisson drilling for the residence to be built at the above -referenced
site on January 21, 1981. An engineering geologist from our firm ob-
served drilling of the first two (2) caissons. More specifically. these
were the caisson in the extreme southwest corner of the house and one of
the caissons under thtt f repLl_acso- At- this- tiaw, Empire- Laboratories,
Inc. reviewed the specifications for the caisson drilling and identified
the firm bedrock stratum. It was noted that the firm bedrock was encoun-
tered in the southwest corner of the excavation. The two (2) piers
observed were twelve (12) inches in diameter and in our opinion were
properly cleaned and reached the proper penetration into the firm bedrock.
Empire Laboratories. Inc. did not inspect the remainder of the piers
drilled at the site,
