ELI Project No. 889-71
This is to certify that on December 30, 1976, a test boring was drilled on
the above -referenced site to a depth of fifteen (15) feet.
The soils encountered at the site consist of a one-half (-)_ foot layer of silty
topsoirunderlain by a brown silty clay to a depth of four and one-half (4})
feet from the surface. The upper clay is underlain by a reddish, sandy,
silty clay to depths of fifteen (15) feet from the surface. At the time of the
investigation, free groundwater was encountered at a depth of twelve (12)
feet from the surface. This soil profile is similar to the one in our Soils
and Foundation Investigation prepared for the subdivision in April of 1971.
It should be noted that groundwater levels in this area are at a maximum
high in late summer or early fall after the irrigation season. In view of
groundwater levels encountered at the site, basement construction is feasible
providing the finished basement slab is placed at least three (3) feet above
the maximum groundwater elevation.
It is recommended that the substructure be supported by conventional -type,
continuous spread footings founded on the original undisturbed soil a minimum
of thirty (30) inches below finished grade for frost protection. Footings
at this level may be designed for a maximum allowable bearing capacity of
two thousand pounds. (2000#) per square foot (dead load plus maximum live
load) . It is suggested that the recommendations and criteria as set forth
In the soils report prepared for this area be reviewed and adhered to.
If you have any questions regarding the soil conditions at the site, or if
we can be of additional help to you on this project, please feel free to contact
US.
Very truly yours,
