Thank you for meeting with Ike Gefroh and myself to go over Building Inspection
comments on the permit set of plans. For the record, we discussed and
agreed upon the following:
1. Barn Loft: Storage has been assumed to be for materials related to
farm functions, and so supporting structure has been designed to a maximum
150 lbs/s.f. loading. The worst case scenario we see is hay or alfalfa
storage, and over the highest area, i.e. at the center of the barn under
the ridge, even assuming ten bales of hay stacked on top of each other
(at 40 lbs., spread over an area of roughly 6 s.f., or roughly 66 lbs.
per s.f.) Or assuming alfalfa bales, at say 80 lbs. each, this would
result in loading of approximately 130 lbs. per s.f. We are confident
that the floor support structure for the barn loft using loading of
150 lbs. per s.f. will be adequate for the proposed function. Three signs
will be displayed showing the maximum loading of 150 lbs. per s.f. as
detailed on drawing 27.
2. Barn - Fire Containment: Regarding the comments of Warren Jones,
Poudre Fire Authority, the barn has an area of 4,700 s.f. and so is less
than the 5,000 s.f. area which would require separation of sprinkler.
We have discussed this with Warren,_ and he is-ha{lpy with our Interpretation._
3. Emergency Lighting: We calculated the area of the Resource Building
used for assembly purposes to be approximately 1170 s.f. Using 15 s.f.
per person, this gives an occupancy load of 78. This is less than 100,
therefore an emergency lighting system is not required.
Again, thank you for meeting with us Felix.
Sincerely,
GEFROH ASSOCIATES, INC. cc: Warren Jones
