RE: HEADER ABOVE 8'-7" SPAN FROM FOUNDATION WALL TO OFF -SET
SPREAD FOOTING ON THE MODEL #404
Dear Mr. Hayes:
At your request, I performed calculations to clarify the required
capacity of the header beams on the Model. #404. The beams in
question are at the approximate center (front to back), and on
the side opposite the garage. The required beam strength of 4-
2x10's is shown on the foundation drawings. This is the correct
composite beam that is required to resolve the roof loads into
the foundation wall and the spread footing. The item that is not
clearly shown on the foundation drawing, is that this beam can be
comprised of two separate beams of 2-2x10's stacked vertically.
This detail would be 2-2x10 at the second floor level, 2-2x10 at
the first floor level with a solid stud wall between them. This
is the equivalent of 4-2x10's at the top of the foundation wall.
