RE:'''Administrative Review of Case #2-91, Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity
Snhdivisi_on
Dear Mr. Peterson:
The proposal to build Zeta Tau Alpha sorority house at Blue Bell and
Baystone will place burdens on the neighborhood and the city.
1. The existing confusion of automobiles, bikes, and pedestrians on
South Shields, Plum, West Elizabeth and City Park Avenue is
difficult for all modes of traffic. Particularly challenging'is a
left turn from west -bound Plum to south -bound City Park Avenue
in late afternoon.
The housing of 55 Zeta Tau Alphans in the proposed location
a possible 55 more cars, 55 bikes, and/or 55 pedestrianq rn
add to the congestion, noise, and ai.t.p,ollution of the
In addition, pledges living on campus will make trips
the house for meetings, meals, and fellowship. Also t,
considered are the service and supply vehicles.
2. Beyond traffic considerations, the present concentrati
of students within this small area (i.e., Shields, W.
Elizabeth to the bull farm area, City Park, and Myrtle
_ is an administrative burden on the city. To add one
more house of 55 will cause even more problems. In
the 15 years we have lived near Laurel and Shields,
excessive noise has become significant. Whereas,
joyful "party" sounds and youthful exuberance used to
heard on occasional weekends, the present life style
of students involves the invasion of blasting stereos,
screams, and bellows into the wee hours of the morning
on all 7 days of the week. .We are willing to
countenance a reasonable amount of noise on an
occasional weekend; we are unwilling to be
assaulted by sounds that rock the neighborhood.

For the preceding reasons, I urge that the Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity
request be denied, since the area is already compromised by excessive
traffic and noise.
Sincerely,

attendance at this meeting. I hope a letter will receive the
same consideration as a presentation in person.
