U.S. Postal Service Denver Facilities Service Office 8055 E. Tufts Ave. Parkway, Suite 400 Denver, CO 80237-2881 Dear Mr. Roitenberg: I appreciated the opportunity to meet with you and representatives from the Postal Service on Monday to discuss the new main post office proposal. As you know, City staff has continued to have a number of concerns regarding the proposed access to the site from Boardwalk. We believe that the Postal Service and the community would be better served in the long run if a traffic study were. done to City requirements, :n order to guide appropriate decisions on access. We would urge you to reconsider using the Boardwalk and Landings intersection as the major access to the property. John F. Kennedy Boulevard has been designed and partially built as the major arterial access to your property: We believe that this arterial would provide the most efficient access to your facility. As discussed, if the Postal Service still insists on the site access frome Boardwalk; we would urge the development of an intergovernmental agreement to allow the reconsideration of the access question at the time JFK Boulevard i.s connected with Horsetooth Road. The agreement would set forth a commitment between the -Posta-l-Servi-ce-and -the City to revisit the-access-s-i-tua-ti-on-based-on conditions at that time. The Postal Service would be expected to take responsibility for making any necessary changes. We would also encourage the Postal Service to hold a neighborhood meeting to notify nearby property owners of your building plans.. The City is also concerned about theadequacy of landscaping on the site. Fort Collins prides itself on its appearance. It is an important character of the community. We would ask that your plans be reviewed with the Planning Department. staff for consistency with City standards. We recognize that the Postal Service can, as a federal agency, do as it pleases, and ignore local concerns and issues.. We would urge, however, that you take our suggestions and comments to heart as part of the design process. GCollins, CNU"ltU 0I.Wortr - rnue, • 1,A). RuC 3SO O ') 4 Mr. Joel K.. If our local concerns are addressed, we believe it will be a good neighbor. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Sincerely, Steven C.
