RE: 1992 Southwest School - Case #16-91

I am wholly in favor of the proposed location for the new
elementary school. There are several items that I would like to
bring to the Board's attention regarding ancillary improvements
that should be implemented to provide access and safety for
children attending the school and also for those children who might
use the playground after normal school hours. Whether its intended
or not, the school playground will be a recreation site for
children. Most of my concerns center around providing safe access
to the school for children living north of Harmony Road. Suggested
improvements are:
1. Reducing the speed limit on Harmony Road and posting
school zone signs.
2. Installation of a stoplight/crosswalk on Harmony Road.
3. Completing sidewalks along the north side of Harmony
Road.
4. Making certain that there is sidewalk access to the
school for children living north of Harmony Road.
5. Provide sidewalk access from Harmony Road to new streets
south of Marigold Lane (houses built in the last year).
The sidewalk would have to skirt the storm detention pond
behind houses built on Goshawk Dr. I would like to see
access to the school from the subdivision at points other
than along Larkbunting or Starflower Drives.
Thank you,
