PARKING GARAGE DESIGN:
The design intent for the adjacent parking structure is to compliment the Block 23 design character with strong architectural elements, where the
skin provides pattern, rhythm, and architectural shapes that mimic what you would see on an enclosed building. The design will have an emphasis in
vertical lines and “framed” areas or creating an overall pattern. This results in the building feeling less like a parking garage because it takes the eye
away from seeing the underlying structure of the sloped ramps and fronts of cars.
As you enter the alley from Maple Street, both the Morningstar building entrance and the parking garage entrance are clearly delineated with
strong architectural elements. The entrance to the garage, for both autos and pedestrians, is paired with the building entrance so there is a clear
connection on where to go after you park your car. Masonry corner elements frame the building and act as an anchor to the vertical decorative panels.
Circulation by both elevator and stair is clear at the perimeter of the building and will be designed to feel like a outdoor lobby to a downtown hotel or
other commercial space.
Bicycle parking, both short-term, and long-term, will be provided under cover for safety and convenience.
