RE: # fj-ya Marine Sports West
Application for Home Occupation Permit
Building Permits & Inspections Division # P 397 288 881
Reasons for Denial of Application:
1. Section 29-459(6)
A. Outboard Motor engines are being stored outside and behind the one
Garage.
B. Several motorboats are on the premises in the driveway - not inside
the buildings.
See attachment.
2. Section 29-459(7)
A. Offensive Noise
Running motors at high rpm at all hours of evenings, weekends, and
Holidays. (Has late as 10:30 p.m. or after)
1. Cannot talk on my telephone inside my home.
2. Cannot carry on a normal conversation - even with the windows
closed.
B. Smoke
When the engines are run at high rpm, there are hugrEclouds of blue -
gray smoke that billow into the air as high as my tree, approximately
30 feet high. I must close my windows because it is thick and I now
must clean my windows each weekend because it is leaving a greasy film
on them.
C. Odor uuuw L
There are ammisAirsmells that come from them doing their work.
One is a foUl caustic odor that makes you feel like cho/king, your
eyes burn and makes you feel neausated. It has a very caustic odor.
One night, after 10:30pm. I had to get up and close my bedroom window
because it just permiated the air.
D. Glare
Large flood lights outside the garage shine directly into my living
room and bedroom and when its after 10:30 p.m. it is too late to be
out in the garage makingealot of noise and having lots of lights on.
3. Section 29-459(1)
A. The two garages are detached buildings and business is not conducted
entirely within them.
4. Chemials
A. What kind?
$. How are they being handled, stored and disposed of?
C. What is being done to prevent any type of fire or explosion?
1). What means do they have of treating an emergency situation should a fire
occur?
E. Are these chemials allowed and permitted?
5. Business Hours.
A. No mention of set business hours has been made. So far they seem to

operate in the evenings, holidays and weekends. This is unacceptable.
The noise, smell and traffic is not appropriate in a residential area.
This business has a place in an industrial area where they may make loud
noise, emit hugh clouds of toxic odors, run traffic without causing traffic
problems on a residential street. And perhaps most importantly - in the
event of an emerg6ncy with a fire or explosion they would be in an area
where proper equipment could have access to deal with the matter, has it
is, you could not get a fire truck in there.
Since.the formal complaint was filed, they have seem4to be very cautious
about the nature and type of activity that is occuring on the premises.
My concern is that upon granting a permit to them that they will be once
again working every weekend, holiday, and late into the evenings.
Since their request impacts me so greatly I request that furter investigation
be done and that the application be DENIED.
Sincerely,
Alyson Johnson
