1.ALL CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS TO COMPLY WITH COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION M&S STANDARDS.
2.FOR PLAN QUANTITIES OF PAVEMENT MATERIALS, THE FOLLOWING RATES OF APPLICATION WERE
USED:
- TACK COAT EMULSIFIED ASPHALT: 330 GAL (@ 0.1 GALS/SQ. YD. DILUTED AND UNDILUTED)
- HOT MIX ASPHALT (HMA): 1,263 TONS (@ 110 LBS./SQ. YD./INCH)
- AGGREGATE BASE COURSE CLASS 6: 1,803 TONS (@ 133 LBS./CU. FT.)
3.A TACK COAT OF EMULSIFIED ASPHALT (SLOW SETTING) IS TO BE APPLIED TO IMPROVE BOND AT
THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS:
- BEFORE PLACING NEW PAVEMENT OVER EXISTING PAVEMENT.
- ALONG THE FACE OF ALL CURBS, GUTTERS, MANHOLES, ADJACENT EXISTING PAVEMENT, AND
OTHER SURFACES AGAINST WHICH ASPHALT WILL BE PLACED.
- BETWEEN PAVEMENT COURSES WHEN ORDERED BY THE ENGINEER.
4.DILUTED EMULSIFIED ASPHALT FOR TACK COAT SHALL CONSIST OF 1-PART EMULSIFIED ASPHALT,
AND 1-PART WATER.
5.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT A PAVING SCHEDULE TO THE ENGINEER AT LEAST 5 WORKING
DAYS PRIOR TO THE PRE-PAVING CONFERENCE. PAVING SHALL NOT BEGIN UNTIL THE SCHEDULE
HAS BEEN ACCEPTED IN WRITING BY THE ENGINEER.
6.PRIOR TO PLACING HOT MIX ASPHALT, THE PAVED SURFACE SHALL BE SWEPT AND CLEANED.
THIS WORK WILL BE PERFORMED BY A PICKUP BROOM.
7.ANY LAYER OF HMA THAT IS TO HAVE A SUCCEEDING LAYER PLACED THEREON SHALL BE
COMPLETED TO THE FULL AVAILABLE WIDTH WITHIN EACH PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION BEFORE A
SUCCEEDING LAYER IS PLACED. DILUTED TACK COAT SHALL BE USED BETWEEN EXISTING MAT
AND NEW PAVEMENT, AND BETWEEN NEW PAVEMENT COURSES.
8.THE FOLLOWING SHALL BE FURNISHED WITH EACH BITUMINOUS PAVER:
- A SKI TYPE DEVICE AT LEAST 30 FEET.
- SHORT SKI OR SHOE.
- 10,000 FEET OF CONTROL LINE AND STAKES.
- TAPER SHOE REQUIRED FOR LONGITUDINAL JOINT.
9.DEPTH OF RECONDITIONING AND MOISTURE-DENSITY CONTROL FOR THIS PROJECT SHALL BE AS
FOLLOWS:
- FULL DEPTH OF ALL EMBANKMENTS
- FULL DEPTH FOR AGGREGATE BASE COURSE
- 6 INCHES FOR BASES OF CUTS AND FILLS, AND IN CONFORMANCE WITH GEOTECHNICAL
REPORT REQUIREMENTS
10.ALL PAVEMENTS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED TO MRI CATEGORY A SMOOTHNESS REQUIREMENTS
UNLESS OTHERWISE ASSIGNED BY THE CDOT REGIONAL MATERIAL'S OFFICE. CDOT RESERVES
THE RIGHT TO PERFORM SMOOTHNESS TESTING TO DETERMINE CONFORMANCE WITH
REQUIREMENTS. ALL CORRECTIVE WORK SHALL BE AT THE SOLE EXPENSE OF THE PERMITTEE
TO CORRECT.
11.WHERE IT IS REQUIRED TO CUT EXISTING PAVEMENT, THE CUTTING SHALL BE PERFORMED TO A
NEAT WORK LINE TO THE FULL DEPTH OF PAVEMENT WITH A PAVEMENT CUTTING SAW OR OTHER
METHOD AS APPROVED BY THE PROJECT ENGINEER.
12.WHERE NEW PAVEMENT IS TO ABUT EXISTING PAVEMENT, THE EXISTING PAVEMENT SHALL BE
REMOVED FULL DEPTH TO A NEW VERTICAL LINE USING A PAVEMENT CUTTING SAW.
13.THE SEVERITY OF SULFATE EXPOSURE FOR ALL CONCRETE SHALL BE CLASS 2.
14.AGGREGATE BASE COURSE FOR USE WITHIN THE PAVEMENT PRISM IN CDOT ROW SHALL BE ABC
CLASS 6 WITH A MINIMUM R-VALUE OF 78
15.IMPORTED FILL FOR USE WITHIN THE PAVEMENT PRISM IN CDOT ROW SHALL BE AN EMBANKMENT
WITH A MINIMUM R-VALUE OF 40.
16.NEW HMA IN CDOT ROW SHALL BE INSTALLED IN LIFTS NO LESS THAN 2 INCHES THICK, AND NO
GREATER THAN 3 INCHES THICK.
