7.PREPARE A WEED MANAGEMENT PLAN TO ENSURE THAT WEEDS ARE PROPERLY MANAGED BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER SEEDING ACTIVITIES.
8.AFTER SEEDING THE AREA SHALL BE COVERED WITH CRIMPED STRAW, JUTE MESH, OR OTHER APPROPRIATE METHODS. PLASTIC-BASED EROSION CONTROL
MATERIALS (I.E., PLASTIC-WELDED BLANKETS) SHALL NOT BE USED WITHOUT EXPRESS PERMISSION FROM THE ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNER AS THESE MATERIALS
HAVE PROVEN TO CAUSE WILDLIFE ENTRAPMENT ISSUES.
9.WHERE NEEDED, TEMPORARY IRRIGATION SHOULD BE PROVIDED UNTIL SEED IS GERMINATED THEN WEEN THE SEED FROM IRRIGATION. IF IRRIGATION IS USED,
THE IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOR SEEDED AREAS SHALL BE FULLY OPERATIONAL AT THE TIME OF SEEDING AND SHALL ENSURE 100% HEAD-TO-HEAD COVERAGE
OVER ALL SEEDED AREAS. ALL METHODS AND REQUIREMENTS IN THE APPROVED IRRIGATION PLAN SHALL BE FOLLOWED.
10.CONTRACTOR SHALL MONITOR SEEDED AREA FOR PROPER IRRIGATION, EROSION CONTROL, GERMINATION AND RESEEDING AS NEEDED TO ESTABLISH COVER.
11.THE APPROVED NATIVE SEED MIX AREA IS INTENDED TO BE MAINTAINED IN A NATURAL LIKE LANDSCAPE AESTHETIC. DO NOT MOW DURING HOT, DRY PERIODS.
DO NOT MOW LOWER THAN 6 TO 8 INCHES IN HEIGHT TO AVOID INHIBITING NATIVE PLANT GROWTH.
12.NATIVE SEED AREA WILL BE CONSIDERED ESTABLISHED WHEN SEVENTY PERCENT VEGETATIVE COVER IS REACHED WITH LESS THAN TEN PERCENT OF COVER
CONSISTING OF NOXIOUS WEEDS, NO BARE SPOTS LARGER THAN ONE FOOT SQUARE, AND/OR UNTIL DEEMED ESTABLISHED BY CITY PLANNING SERVICES AND
EROSION CONTROL.
13.THE DEVELOPER AND/OR LANDSCAPE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ADEQUATE SEEDLING COVERAGE AND GROWTH AT THE TIME OF FINAL STABILIZATION,

MULCH IN ALL NATIVE SEED AREAS:
1.IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE RAKING OPERATION, ADD WEED FREE STRAW MULCH TO THE SEEDED AREAS.
2.APPLY STRAW MULCH AT A MINIMUM OF 1.5 TONS PER ACRE OF AIR DRY MATERIAL. SPREAD STRAW MULCH UNIFORMLY OVER THE
AREA WITH MECHANICAL MULCH SPREADER / CRIMPER. DO NOT MULCH WHEN WIND VELOCITY EXCEEDS 10 MPH.
3.WHEREVER THE USE OF CRIMPING EQUIPMENT IS PRACTICAL, PLACE MULCH IN THE MANNER NOTED ABOVE AND ANCHOR IT INTO THE
SOIL. USE A DISC SUCH AS A MULCH TILLER, WITH A FLAT SERRATED DISC AT LEAS ¼ INCH IN THICKNESS, HAVING DULL EDGES, AND
SPACE NO MORE THAN 9 INCHES APART, WITH DISCS OF SUFFICIENT DIAMETER TO PREVENT THE FRAME OF THE EQUIPMENT FROM
DRAGGING THE MULCH. ANCHOR MULCH A MINIMUM DEPTH OF 2 INCHES AND ACROSS THE SLOPE WHERE PRACTICAL WITH NO MORE
THAN TWO PASSES OF THE ANCHORING EQUIPMENT.
4.IMMEDIATELY UPON COMPLETION OF THE MULCHING AND BINDING OPERATION, THE SEEDED AREAS SHALL BE IRRIGATED, KEEPING
THE TOP 2 INCHES OF SOIL EVENLY MOIST UNTIL SEED HAS UNIFORMLY GERMINATED AND GROWN TO A HEIGHT OF 2-INCHES.
5.WATERING APPLICATION SHALL BE DONE IN A MANNER WHICH WILL PROVIDE UNIFORM COVERAGE BUT WHICH WILL NOT CAUSE
EROSION, MOVEMENT, OR DAMAGE TO THE FINISHED SURFACE.
BUFFALOGRASS SHALL BE SEEDED USING 'SUNDANCER' BUFFALOGRASS SEED. CONTACT PAWNEE BUTTES SEED COMPANY FOR
AVAILABILITY. 605 25TH ST., GREELEY, COLORADO. (970) 356-7002
SEEDING RATE: 2-3 LBS PER 1,000 SQ.FT
ESTABLISHMENT:
·SEEDING DATE: WHEN SUSTAINED SOIL TEMPERATURE REACHES AT LEAST 50 DEGREES F.
·SEEDING DEPTH: 0.25-0.50 IN. DEEP.
·KEEP SEED MOIST THROUGHOUT EMERGENCE.
·APPLY 0.75 N/1000 SQ. FT. WITH STARTER FERTILIZER.
WATERING/FERTILIZING/MOWING:
·DURING ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD, WATER EVERY DAY THE 1ST WEEK, EVERY OTHER DAY THE 2ND WEEK, AND EVERY 3RD DAY THE
3RD WEEK AFTER SOIL TEMPERATURE REACHES APPROXIMATELY 50⁰ F. WATER TO WET THE TOP 0.5 INCHES AND DO NOT WATER
TO THE POINT OF RUNOFF.
·WATER DEEPLY AND INFREQUENTLY IF NECESSARY. UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, AN INCH OF WATER PER MONTH WILL SUSTAIN
BUFFALOGRASS WHETHER FROM RAINFALL OR IRRIGATION.
·APPLY 1-3 LBS OF ACTUAL N/1,000 SQ FT/YEAR TO ESTABLISHED BUFFALOGRASS IN SPLIT APPLICATIONS. 1ST APPLICATION 3 WEEKS
AFTER GREEN-UP AND ANOTHER 8 WEEKS LATER.
·MOW OFTEN AT ESTABLISHMENT, AT A HEIGHT SET TO JUST REMOVE THE TIPS OF THE NEW BUFFALOGRASS LEAVES. THIS WILL
ENCOURAGE LATERAL SPREAD(FIG.3) AND REDUCE WEED COMPETITION.
·OPTIMUM MOWING HEIGHT OF MATURE BUFFALOGRASS IS 3.5 TO 4.0 INCHES (FIG.4), BUT IT CAN ADAPT TO HEIGHTS FROM 1.5” TO
UNMOWED DEPENDING ON DESIRED APPEARANCE..
·LOWER MOWING HEIGHTS REQUIRE MORE FREQUENT MOWING AND INCREASES FERTILIZER AND WATER NEEDS.
