Re: Light and Power Utility Services Center Communication Tower PUD
Scope of Work:
The City nf Fort Collins Light and Power Utility is requesting PUD
approval to erect a communicat-ions tower and antenna at the Utility
Services Center, 700 Wood Street, Upon approval, the project will be
completed by October 1988. The area is currently zoned (C) Commercial.
The backup radio communication tower is not expected to impact the
surrounditlg area and will maintain and preserve the character of the
neighborhood as deseribed in Section 118-82(C) of the City of Fort
Collins Ordinance.
The new communication tower and antenna system will replace the system
at the PowerPlant Visual Arts Center at 430 North College which utilizes
a leased communications data circuit from Mountain Bell. This action is
necessary in order to: 1) improve personnel safety and systern
reliability; 2) provide a reliable non-interruptible backup
communications link between Light and Power operations dispatcher a.nd
the service/emergency crews-; 3) provide an optimum location for the
strongest signal levels to all areas of the service area should the main
communication.s link be interrupted; and 4) provide maximum utilization
pf system investment, and free the PowerPlant Visual Arts Center from
utility use consistent with the relocation of the electric substation.
A twenty (20) foot fiberglass enclosed eollinear array omni-directional
anL-enna will be mounted on top of the sixty (60) foot triangular shaped
(Tri-Towea') tower for an overall antenna height of eighty (80) feet.
The Tri-Tower dimensions are 22" by 19" by 19". The non-quyed tower
will be anchored to five (5) foot square by five (5) foot deep steel
reinforced concrete foundation.
