PLANT SCHEDULE
1.MAINTENANCE VEHICLES ON TRAILS
STAFF SHALL OPERATE MOTOR VEHICLES ON THE TRIAL WITH THE SAFETY OF TRAIL USERS AS THE HIGHEST PRIORITY.
STAFF SHALL MAKE OBVIOUS AND ALERTING SOUNDS WHEN APPROACHING BLIND CORNERS OR UNDERPASSES TO
ALERT TRAIL USERS TO THEIR PRESENCE. BEACONS AND FOUR-WAY HAZARDS SHALL ALSO BE ACTIVATED TO ASSIST IN
NOTIFYING USERS OF VEHICLES ON TRAILS. IF CONDITIONS MERIT, A SECOND PERSON MAY ACT AS A PRECAUTIONARY
WARNING TO ACTIVITIES OR CONDITIONS THAT MAY NOT BE EASILY VISIBLE OR DETECTABLE. WHEN ACTIVITIES
ALLOW, A BICYCLE AND TRAILER MAY BE USED INSTEAD OF A MOTOR VEHICLE.
2.GRAFFITI REMOVAL / POWER-WASHING
STAFF SHALL INSPECT TRAILS ON A MONDAY / FRIDAY SCHEDULE TO DETECT AND REMOVE GRAFFITI. ANY REPORTED
GRAFFITI SHALL BE REMOVED IN 48 HOURS. GRAFFITI REMOVAL EFFORTS SHALL BE CONDUCTED WITH THE MOST
SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES IN MIND (I.E. SOY BASED GRAFFITI REMOVAL PRODUCTS). GRAFFITI MAY
BE PAINTED OVER WITH PAINT, WITH PAINT COLOR SELECTION MADE TO CLOSELY MATCH EXISTING COLORS. EFFORTS
TO POWERWASH GRAFFITI MAY REQUIRE MULTIPLE VISITS, WITH A MORE POWERFUL PRESSURE-WASHER EMPLOYED
FOR HEAVILY SOILED AREAS. CARE SHALL BE TAKEN TO AVOID RUNOFF INTO RIVERS OR CREEKS WHEN
POWER-WASHING.
3.TREE TRIMMING AND BRUSH DISPOSAL
STAFF SHALL TRIM TREE BRANCHES FOR CLEARANCE, SITE AND SIGN OBSTRUCTIONS, AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.
CUTS SHOULD BE MADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROPER ARBORICULTURE PRACTICES. BRUSH MAY BE LEFT IN THE
LOCAL ENVIRONMENT BUT DISCARDED FAR ENOUGH FROM THE TRAIL THAT IT DOESN'T INTERFERE WITH USERS OR
MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS.
4.MOWING AND BLOWING OPERATIONS
TRAIL MOWING SHALL BE CONDUCTED A MINIMUM OF 4 TIMES PER YEAR. MOWING HEIGHT WILL BE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH ROUGH MOWING OPERATIONS WITH A WIDTH OF ONE MOW DECK ON EACH SIDE OF THE TRAIL.
SOFT TRAILS SHALL BE MOWED A MINIMUM OF 2 TIMES PER YEAR. CUT GRASS SHALL BE REMOVED OFF OF THE
SURFACE OF THE TRAIL WITHIN 24 HOURS BY UTILIZING A BLOWER OR BROOM. CUT GRASS WILL NOT BE REMOVED
FROM THE SOFT TRAILS. FALLEN LEAVES AND OTHER DEBRIS SHALL BE REMOVED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WHEN
THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN.
5.TRAIL AND UNDERPASS FLOODING
WHEN UNSAFE OR IMPASSABLE CONDITIONS EXIST ON THE TRAIL OR IN UNDERPASSES, THE TRAIL SHALL BE SIGNED
CLOSED AND POSSIBLY BARRICADED WITH EITHER A-FRAME STYLE BARRICADES OR TYPE-3 BARRICADES. DETOUR
SIGNS SHALL BE PLACED TO DIRECT TRAFFIC ALONG THE DESIGNATED ROUTE WHEN NECESSARY. ANY CLOSURES
SHALL BE REPORTED TO THE CREW CHIEF AND THE PARK SHOP TO UPDATE WEB PAGES AND MEDIA OUTLETS.
WHEN FLOODING HAS RECEDED, TRAIL AND UNDERPASS CLEANING SHALL TAKE PLACE BEFORE RE-OPENING. TOOLS
THAT TYPICALLY ARE INVOLVED WITH CLEANING ARE SQUEEGEES, FLAT SHOVELS, PRESSURE WASHERS, AND
HYDRAULIC BROOMS.
6.SNOW REMOVAL
THE TRAILS SHALL BE A LEVEL ONE PRIORITY FOR SNOW REMOVAL. HYDRAULIC BROOMS ARE TYPICALLY USED,
HOWEVER, IN SOME CASES TRUCK MOUNTED PLOWS WILL BE USED. ALL CITY OWNED ACCESSES TO THE TRAILS SHALL
HAVE SNOW REMOVED. CAUTION SHALL BE USED WHEN PLOWING OVER WOODEN BRIDGES TO AVOID DAMAGE TO
THE DECKING, AND PLOWING SHALL BE OUTWARD IN DIRECTION FROM UNDERPASSES. ICE MELT SHALL BE USED IN
AREAS WHERE THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN.
7.BRIDGE DECKING REPLACEMENT
BRIDGE DECKING SHALL BE REPLACED WHEN CONDITIONS OF THE EXISTING SURFACE ARE NO LONGER ADEQUATE FOR
USE. IRONWOOD WILL BE THE PREFERRED MATERIAL FOR REPLACEMENT, BUT PRESSURE TREATED LUMBER MAY BE
USED ON BRIDGES THAT ARE ADJACENT TO TURNS OR CURVES UPON BRIDGE ACCESS. APPLICATIONS OF A PRODUCT
TO ENHANCE GRIP AND MINIMIZE SLIPS AND FALLS ON SLIPPERY BRIDGE SURFACES MAY BE UTILIZED. CARE SHALL BE
TAKEN TO PROTECT THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT WHEN APPLYING. BRIDGES SHALL BE INSPECTED TWICE A YEAR FOR
MAINTENANCE ISSUES SUCH AS REPLACEMENT OR WARPING.
8.AIR STATIONS
AIR STATIONS SHALL BE INSPECTED ON A WEEKLY BASIS FOR PROPER OPERATION. BATTERY WATER LEVELS SHALL BE
CHECKED TWICE A YEAR TO MAINTAIN CHARGING LEVELS.
TRAIL MAINTENANCE NOTES
1.THE TIME OF YEAR SEEDING IS TO OCCUR SHOULD BE OCTOBER THROUGH EARLY MAY.
2.PREPARE SOIL AS NECESSARY AND APPROPRIATE FOR NATIVE SEED MIX SPECIES THROUGH AERATION AND ADDITION OF
AMENDMENTS, THEN SEED IN TWO DIRECTIONS TO DISTRIBUTE SEED EVENLY OVER ENTIRE AREA. DRILL SEED ALL
INDICATED AREAS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER COMPLETION OF GRADING OPERATIONS.
3.IF CHANGES ARE TO BE MADE TO SEED MIX BASED ON SITE CONDITIONS THEN APPROVAL MUST BE PROVIDED BY CITY
ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNER
4.APPROPRIATE NATIVE SEEDING EQUIPMENT WILL BE USED (STANDARD TURF SEEDING EQUIPMENT OR AGRICULTURE
EQUIPMENT SHALL NOT BE USED).
5.DRILL SEED APPLICATION RECOMMENDED PER SPECIFIED APPLICATION RATE TO NO MORE THAN 1

REQUIREMENTS:
CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCATING AND PURCHASING ALL SPECIES LISTED IN MIX. IF A SPECIES CANT BE
LOCATED, CONTRACTOR MUST REPLACE EACH MISSING SPECIES WITH THE ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS (LISTED
ABOVE). CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING SEED TAGS TO APPROPRIATE CITY STAFF. THE MIX IS
BASED ON 70 SEEDS/SQUARE FOOT AND IS ONLY CALCULATED FOR ONE ACRE. THIS MIX IS BASED ON THE
CONTRACTOR USING A DRILL SEED APPLICATION. MIX SHOULD BE DOUBLED IF HAD BROADCASTED. CONTRACTOR IS
RESPONSIBLE FOR CALCULATING THE APPROPRIATE SEED AMOUNTS TO PURCHASE. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE
POUNDS PER ACRE ARE IN PLS (PURE LIVE SEED) AND MUST BE ORDERED THAT WAY. ALL MATERIALS FURNISHED
SHALL BE FREE OF COLORADO STATE NOXIOUS WEEDS AS DEFINED IN ARTICLE III, SECTION 21-40 OF THE CODE OF
THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS.
NHBZ GOALS
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS GUIDELINES (LUC 3.4.1) THE NHBZ SHOULD BE MANAGED TO:
1.PRESERVE OR ENHANCE THE ECOLOGICAL CHARACTER OR FUNCTION AND WILDLIFE USE OF THE NATURAL HABITAT OR FEATURE AND TO
MINIMIZE OR ADEQUATELY MITIGATE THE FORESEEABLE IMPACTS OF DEVELOPMENT.
2.PRESERVE OR ENHANCE THE EXISTENCE OF WILDLIFE MOVEMENT CORRIDORS BETWEEN NATURAL HABITATS AND FEATURES, BOTH WITHIN
AND ADJACENT TO THE SITE.
3.ENHANCE THE NATURAL ECOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SITE. IF EXISTING LANDSCAPING WITHIN THE NHBZ IS DETERMINED BY THE
DECISION MAKER TO BE INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE PURPOSES OF THE BUFFER ZONE, THEN THE APPLICANT SHALL UNDERTAKE RESTORATION
AND MITIGATION MEASURES SUCH AS RE-GRADING AND/OR THE REPLANTING OF NATIVE VEGETATION.
4.PROVIDE APPROPRIATE HUMAN ACCESS TO NATURAL HABITATS AND FEATURES AND THEIR ASSOCIATED NHBZ'S IN ORDER TO SERVE
RECREATION PURPOSES, PROVIDED THAT SUCH ACCESS IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE ECOLOGICAL CHARACTER OR WILDLIFE USE OF THE
NATURAL HABITAT OR FEATURE.
RESTORATION FRAMEWORK
PHASE 1: CREATING OPPORTUNITY AND REDUCING COMPETITION- NOXIOUS AND WEEDY SPECIES SHOULD BE CONTROLLED USING MECHANICAL
OR CHEMICAL METHODS PRIOR TO PROJECT CONSTRUCTION OR GRADING TO ENSURE THAT A VARIETY OF NATIVE SPECIES ARE GIVEN THE
OPPORTUNITY TO ESTABLISH.
PHASE 2: SOIL PREPARATION - THE SOIL SURFACE SHOULD BE OPTIMIZED FOR SEEDING OR PLANTING. AN AGRONOMIC ASSESSMENT IS
RECOMMENDED TO EVALUATE THE CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE SOIL AND DETERMINE IF SOIL AMENDMENTS WOULD HELP
ESTABLISH NATIVE VEGETATION. THE SOIL SURFACE SHOULD BE SMOOTH, UNCOMPACTED, AND FREE OF LARGE MATTER WHICH COULD IMPEDE
PLANTING OR SEEDING. PRIOR TO SEEDING THE SOIL SURFACE SHOULD BE LOOSE, ALLOWING FOR GOOD SOIL/SEED CONTACT.
PHASE 3: AFTER FINAL CONTOURING AND AMENDMENT APPLICATION/INCORPORATION, SEEDING SHOULD OCCUR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO
AVOID UNDESIRABLE IMPACTS FROM WIND OR PRECIPITATION. SEEDING CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED USING BROADCASTING, DRILLING, AND
HYDROSEEDING TECHNIQUES WHEREVER APPLICABLE. DRILLING IS THE PREFERRED METHOD BECAUSE SEEDING RATES AND DEPTHS CAN BE MORE
EASILY CONTROLLED, AND SEED/SOIL CONTACT IS MAXIMIZED. LATE OCTOBER THROUGH EARLY MAY IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO PLANT NATIVE
SEED IN FORT COLLINS.
·FOR BROADCAST SEEDING: THE SEEDING RATE SHOULD BE DOUBLED, SEED-TO SOIL CONTACT SHOULD BE INCREASED IMMEDIATELY
THROUGH MANIPULATION, WHICH WILL ALSO PROVIDE SOME PROTECTION FROM WIND OR WATER EROSION AND GRANIVORES.
MANIPULATION CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY EITHER A LIGHT DISC HARROWING PERPENDICULAR TO THE FLOW OF ENERGY (WIND AND/OR
WATER) OR HAND RAKING AROUND SENSITIVE AREAS (I.E. WILLOW PATCHES).
·FOR DRILL SEEDING: FINAL DRILLING PASS MUST OCCUR ON THE CONTOUR, TO CREATE SUBTLE RIDGES PERPENDICULAR TO THE FLOW OF
ENERGY. DRILL SEEDING SHOULD NOT BE CONDUCTED IN SENSITIVE AREAS.
·FOR HYDROSEEDING: USE SHOULD BE LIMITED TO STEEP AND/OR INACCESSIBLE SLOPES WHERE DRILLING IS NOT AN OPTION. THE SLOPE
SHOULD BE ROUGHENED TO HELP PREVENT THE HYDROSEEDING MIX FROM WASHING OFF THE SLOPE, WHICH CREATES AN UNEVEN
DISTRIBUTION OF SEEDS.
APPROPRIATE NATIVE SEEDING EQUIPMENT WILL BE USED, WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE STANDARD TURF SEEDING EQUIPMENT OR AGRICULTURE
EQUIPMENT. DRILL SEED THE APPROVED MIX IN TWO PASSES, EACH AT A RIGHT ANGLES TO THE OTHER AND USING HALF THE SEED IN EACH PASS.
SEED SHOULD BE DRILLED AT THE SPECIFIED APPLICATION RATE AND TO A DEPTH OF ¼ TO ½ INCH. IF AREAS ARE TOO WET OR STEEP TO DRILL
SEED, BROADCAST SEED IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS AT TWICE THE APPLICATION RATE USED FOR DRILL SEEDING. RESTORE FINE GRADE AFTER
SEEDING, AND COVER SEED TO A DEPTH OF ¼ OF AN INCH BY RAKING OR DRAGGING. FIRM SEEDED AREAS WITH A ROLLER WEIGHING A
MAXIMUM OF 100 LBS. PER FOOT OF WIDTH. AFTER HYDROSEEDING, HYDROMULCHING SHOULD OCCUR AS A SEPARATE PROCESS SINCE MIXING
SEED AND MULCH WILL RESULT IN POOR SEED/SOIL CONTACT. MULCHES WILL BENEFIT MOST SITES THAT HAVE BEEN HYDROSEEDED AND WILL BE
MOST EFFECTIVE WHEN THEY COVER THE GROUND ALMOST COMPLETELY AND ARE DURABLE ENOUGH TO REMAIN UNTIL SEED GERMINATION.
PHASE 4. MAINTENANCE AND MANAGEMENT - MAINTENANCE AND MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED TO ENSURE THE
SUCCESS OF THE ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION PROJECT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MONITOR SEEDED AREA FOR EROSION CONTROL, GERMINATION,
AND RESEEDING AS NEEDED TO ESTABLISH COVER.
THE NHBZ WILL BE SURVEYED TWICE A YEAR ON THE FOLLOWING SCHEDULE:
1.IN THE SPRING, A QUALIFIED ECOLOGIST WILL TRAVERSE THE ENTIRETY OF THE SITE TO ASSESS NOXIOUS WEED POPULATIONS.
2.AT THE PEAK OF GROWING SEASON, A QUALIFIED ECOLOGIST WILL IMPLEMENT QUANTITATIVE MEASUREMENTS TO EVALUATE GROUND
COVER WITHIN THE NHBZ.
QUANTITATIVE MEASUREMENTS WILL CONSIST OF TWO PERMANENT PHOTO POINTS AND FIVE GROUND COVER SAMPLING POINTS. AT EACH
SAMPLE POINT, GROUND COVER WILL BE MEASURED LINE POINT INTERCEPT TRANSECTS, WHERE THE ECOLOGIST WILL RECORD VEGETATIVE
GROUND COVER BY SPECIES TO THE NEAREST 1%. ALL SPECIES, INCLUDING NOXIOUS AND INVASIVE SPECIES, AND THEIR RESPECTIVE PERCENT
GROUND COVER WILL BE RECORDED.
ANNUAL MONITORING WILL CONTINUE FOR A TOTAL OF THREE YEARS FOLLOWING RESTORATION OF THE NHBZ. A BRIEF MEMO CONTAINING
SURVEY FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS BY OCTOBER 30TH OF EACH YEAR.
DURING THE THIRD YEAR OF ANNUAL MONITORING, A DETERMINATION OF SUCCESSFUL ESTABLISHMENT IN THE NHBZ WILL BE MADE BY CITY
ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING DEPARTMENT BASED ON A SITE SURVEYS AND VEGETATIVE PERFORMANCE COMPARED TO THE FOLLOWING SUCCESS
CRITERIA:
1.70% TOTAL VEGETATIVE COVER (EXCLUDING NOXIOUS WEEDS) IS REACHED WITH NO BARE SPOTS LARGER THAN ONE SQUARE-FOOT;
2.80% SURVIVAL OF PLANTED WOODY SPECIES;
3.NOXIOUS WEEDS DO NOT EXCEED 10% TOTAL COVER, AND;
4.EFFECTIVE EROSION PROTECTION.
RESTORATION PLAN
ANNUAL MONITORING PLAN
NOXIOUS WEEDS ARE COMMON IN URBAN AND DEVELOPED AREAS. CONSTRUCTION-RELATED GROUND DISTURBANCES FACILITATE AND CREATE
IDEAL CONDITIONS FOR THE SPREAD OF NOXIOUS WEEDS. NEVERTHELESS, THERE ARE SOME GENERAL PRACTICES THAT CAN BE FOLLOWED TO
LIMIT THE SPREAD AND/OR ESTABLISHMENT OF NOXIOUS WEEDS DURING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES.
PRE-CONSTRUCTION PHASE:
·TREAT EXISTING NOXIOUS WEED POPULATIONS THAT COULD BE SPREAD BY CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, ESPECIALLY INDIVIDUAL PLANTS AND
SMALL INFESTATIONS. AGGRESSIVE TREATMENT OF EXISTING WEED POPULATIONS GREATLY REDUCES THE ABILITY OF THE WEEDS TO
REBOUND IN POST-CONSTRUCTION CONDITIONS.
·REQUIRING EQUIPMENT (ESPECIALLY DIRT-MOVING EQUIPMENT LIKE BULLDOZERS AND EXCAVATORS) TO BE WASHED AND WEED-FREE
BEFORE ENTERING THE SITE.
·USE ONLY CERTIFIED WEED-FREE STRAW AND MULCH FOR EROSION CONTROL PROJECTS, INCLUDING WEED-FREE FIBER ROLL BARRIERS
AND/OR SEDIMENT LOGS.
SEEDING, PLANTING, AND POST-CONSTRUCTION PHASES:
·OBTAIN SOIL COMPONENTS, AMENDMENTS, SEED MIXES, AND MULCHES FROM WEED-FREE SOURCES.
·ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN VIGOROUS, DESIRABLE VEGETATION TO DISCOURAGE WEEDS.
·MULCH ANY NON-VEGETATED SURFACES TO MINIMIZE THE AMOUNT OF NOXIOUS WEED SEEDS THAT WILL REACH THE SOIL SURFACE AND
GERMINATE.
·THE NHBZ WILL BE MONITORED FOR ANY WEED INFESTATIONS POST-CONSTRUCTION AND TREATED APPROPRIATELY IF IDENTIFIED. THIS WILL
OCCUR TWICE A YEAR FOR THREE YEARS FOLLOWING PLANTING.
·THE SPECIES, LOCATION, POPULATION SIZE, AND TREATMENT METHOD OF NOXIOUS WEEDS IN THE NHBZ WILL BE DOCUMENTED TO INFORM
ADAPTIVE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES.
WEED TREATMENTS FOR NOXIOUS WEEDS IDENTIFIED ON SITE.
A LICENSED PESTICIDE COMMERCIAL APPLICATOR WILL BE USED ON THE PROJECT TO PROPERLY IMPLEMENT HERBICIDE TREATMENTS.
CANADA THISTLE WEED CONTROL - CANADA THISTLE WILL BE TREATED WITH MILESTONE HERBICIDE USING A FALL APPLICATION OF A
TRANSLOCATING HERBICIDE PER RECOMMENDATIONS PROVIDED BY THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE IN THE 'CANADA THISTLE
IDENTIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT FACTSHEET (2008).
CHEATGRASS WEED CONTROL - CHEATGRASS WILL BE CONTROLLED USING A VARIETY OF ERADICATION METHODS IN THE SAME SITE ALONG WITH
RESTORATION, PREVENTION OF SEED PRODUCTION AND DISPERSAL, AND MONITORING. CHEATGRASS WILL BE TREATED WITH HERBICIDE
ACCORDING TO THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE DOWNY BROME IDENTIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT FACTSHEET (2019).
COMMON MULLEIN WEED CONTROL - COMMON MULLEIN WILL BE CONTROLLED USING MECHANICAL AND CHEMICAL TREATMENTS. CHEMICAL
CONTROL WILL CONSIST OF TELAR XP TREATMENTS TO THE ROSETTE STAGE IN THE FALL PER RECOMMENDATIONS BASED PROVIDED BY THE
COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE COMMON MULLEIN IDENTIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT FACTSHEET (2009).
FIELD BINDWEED WEED CONTROL - FIELD BINDWEED WILL PRIMARILY BE TREATED WITH CULTURAL CONTROL BY ESTABLISHING EFFECTIVE
DESIRABLE VEGETATION. HOWEVER, IF DOMINANCE OF FIELD BINDWEED IS OBSERVED, IT WILL BE TREATED WITH DRIVE HERBICIDE OR OTHER
HERBICIDES PER RECOMMENDATIONS PROVIDED BY THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE IN THE FIELD BINDWEED IDENTIFICATION
AND MANAGEMENT FACTSHEET (2015).
LEAFY SPURGE WEED CONTROL - IF FOUND TO BE PERVASIVE ONSITE, LEAFY SPURGE WILL BE TREATED WITH HERBICIDE PER RECOMMENDATIONS
PROVIDED BY THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE IN THE LEAFY SPURGE IDENTIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT FACTSHEET (2015).
MUSK THISTLE WEED CONTROL - MUSK THISTLE WILL BE TREATED WITH MILESTONE HERBICIDE USING A FALL APPLICATION TO THE ROSETTE
STAGE PER RECOMMENDATIONS PROVIDED BY THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE MUSK THISTLE IDENTIFICATION AND
MANAGEMENT FACTSHEET (2015).
REDSTEM FILAREE WEED CONTROL - REDSTEM FILAREE WILL BE CONTROLLED USING ESCORT XP DURING THE ROSETTE STAGE OF GROWTH.
TREATMENTS WILL BEGIN BEFORE CONSTRUCTION AND SPOT TREATMENTS WILL BE USED DURING CONSTRUCTION PER RECOMMENDATIONS
PROVIDED BY THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE REDSTEM FILAREE IDENTIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT FACTSHEET (2009).
RUSSIAN OLIVE WEED CONTROL - RUSSIAN THISTLE BE CONTROLLED WITH CUT-STUMP TREATMENTS OF GLYPHOSATE IN THE FALL PER
RECOMMENDATIONS PROVIDED BY THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE IN THE RUSSIAN OLIVE IDENTIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT
FACTSHEET (2015).
SCOTCH THISTLE WEED CONTROL - SCOTCH THISTLE WILL BE TREATED WITH MILESTONE HERBICIDE USING A FALL APPLICATION TO THE ROSETTE
STAGE PER RECOMMENDATIONS PROVIDED BY THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE SCOTCH THISTLE IDENTIFICATION AND
MANAGEMENT FACTSHEET (2016).
CATTAIL MANAGEMENT
CATTAILS ARE LIKELY TO ESTABLISH IN THE PROPOSED STORMWATER DETENTION AREAS DUE TO THEIR ABUNDANCE LOCALLY AND DIRECTLY
ADJACENT TO THE SITE. THOUGH THEY ARE A NATIVE SPECIES, THEIR ABILITY TO COMPETE WITH SEEDED SPECIES OFTEN LEADS TO DIMINISHED
BIODIVERSITY AND UNSUCCESSFUL ESTABLISHMENT OF SEEDED SPECIES, IF LEFT UNMANAGED. CATTAILS SHOULD BE SUPPRESSED FOR A
MINIMUM OF THREE YEARS TO ALLOW LESS AGGRESSIVE NATIVE SPECIES TO ESTABLISH. CATTAILS CAN BE SUCCESSFULLY CONTROLLED THROUGH
MANUAL REMOVAL; HAND PULLING OR CUTTING STALKS BELOW THE WATER LINE BEFORE FLOWERING IS THE RECOMMENDED CONTROL METHOD
FOR ANY POPULATIONS THAT MAY ESTABLISH ON SITE.

PROVIDED TREE MITIGATION SUMMARY TABLE
TREE MITIGATION NOTES
1.SHOULD DISCREPANCIES BE FOUND BETWEEN THE QUANTITIES LISTED IN THE PLANT TABLE AND THE QUANTITIES
GRAPHICALLY SHOWN ON THE LANDSCAPE PLANS, THEN THE QUANTITIES SHOWN BY GRAPHIC SYMBOLS ON THE LANDSCAPE
PLANS SHALL CONTROL
2.ALL TREE REMOVAL SHOWN SHALL BE COMPLETED OUTSIDE OF THE SONGBIRD NESTING SEASON (FEB 1 - JULY 31) OR A NESTING SURVEY WILL BE
CONDUCTED BY A PROFESSIONAL ECOLOGIST OR WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST PRIOR TO TREE REMOVAL TO ENSURE THAT NO ACTIVE NESTS ARE PRESENT. IF
ACTIVE NESTS ARE FOUND, THE CITY ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNER WILL DETERMINE WHETHER ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS ON TREE REMOVAL AND
CONSTRUCTION APPLY.
3.ECOLOGICAL VALUE LOST FROM TREE REMOVAL WAS QUANTIFIED IN THE TREE MITIGATION PLAN CHART UNDER THE 'NOTES' COLUMN AS HABITAT GROVE.
MITIGATION WAS ACCOUNTED FOR BY CREATING EQUAL CANOPY COVERAGE THROUGH THE ADDITION OF HABITAT ISLANDS AS SEEN ON THE LANDSCAPE
PLAN. NOT ONLY DO THESE HABITAT ISLAND CONTAIN EQUAL CANOPY COVERAGE BUT ALSO INCLUDE NATIVE PLANTINGS TO UNDER THE CANOPY TO
INCREASE ECOLOGICAL VALUE.

1.ALL EXISTING TREES WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE DEVELOPMENT SHALL REMAIN AND BE PROTECTED UNLESS NOTED ON THESE PLANS FOR
REMOVAL.
2.WITHIN THE DRIP LINE OF ANY PROTECTED EXISTING TREE, THERE SHALL BE NO CUT OR FILL OVER A FOUR-INCH DEPTH UNLESS A QUALIFIED
ARBORIST OR FORESTER HAS EVALUATED AND APPROVED THE DISTURBANCE.
3.ALL PROTECTED EXISTING TREES SHALL BE PRUNED TO THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS FORESTRY STANDARDS. TREE PRUNING AND REMOVAL SHALL
BE PERFORMED BY A BUSINESS THAT HOLDS A CURRENT CITY OF FORT COLLINS ARBORIST LICENSE WHERE REQUIRED BY CODE.
4.PRIOR TO AND DURING CONSTRUCTION, BARRIERS SHALL BE ERECTED AROUND ALL PROTECTED EXISTING TREES WITH SUCH BARRIERS TO BE OF
ORANGE FENCING A MINIMUM OF FOUR (4) FEET IN HEIGHT, SECURED WITH METAL T-POSTS, NO CLOSER THAN SIX (6) FEET FROM THE TRUNK OR
ONE-HALF (½) OF THE DRIP LINE, WHICHEVER IS GREATER. THERE SHALL BE NO STORAGE OR MOVEMENT OF EQUIPMENT, MATERIAL, DEBRIS OR
FILL WITHIN THE FENCED TREE PROTECTION ZONE.
5.DURING THE CONSTRUCTION STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT, THE APPLICANT SHALL PREVENT THE CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT OR MATERIAL OR THE
STORAGE AND DISPOSAL OF WASTE MATERIAL SUCH AS PAINTS, OILS, SOLVENTS, ASPHALT, CONCRETE, MOTOR OIL OR ANY OTHER MATERIAL
HARMFUL TO THE LIFE OF A TREE WITHIN THE DRIP LINE OF ANY PROTECTED TREE OR GROUP OF TREES.
6.NO DAMAGING ATTACHMENT, WIRES, SIGNS OR PERMITS MAY BE FASTENED TO ANY PROTECTED TREE.
7.THE INSTALLATION OF UTILITIES, IRRIGATION LINES OR ANY UNDERGROUND FIXTURE REQUIRING EXCAVATION DEEPER THAN SIX (6) INCHES SHALL
BE ACCOMPLISHED BY BORING UNDER THE ROOT SYSTEM OF PROTECTED EXISTING TREES AT A MINIMUM DEPTH OF TWENTY-FOUR (24) INCHES.
THE AUGER DISTANCE IS ESTABLISHED FROM THE FACE OF THE TREE (OUTER BARK) AND IS SCALED FROM TREE DIAMETER AT BREAST HEIGHT AS
DESCRIBED IN THE CHART BELOW:
8.NO TREES SHALL BE REMOVED DURING THE SONGBIRD NESTING SEASON (FEBRUARY 1 TO JULY 31) WITHOUT FIRST HAVING A PROFESSIONAL
ECOLOGIST OR WILDLIFE
BIOLOGIST COMPLETE A NESTING SURVEY TO IDENTIFY ANY ACTIVE NESTS EXISTING ON THE PROJECT SITE. THE SURVEY SHALL BE SENT TO THE
CITY ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNER. IF ACTIVE NESTS ARE FOUND, THE CITY WILL COORDINATE WITH RELEVANT STATE AND
FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVES TO DETERMINE WHETHER ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS ON TREE REMOVAL AND CONSTRUCTION APPLY.

NOTES
1.DAMAGE TO PROTECTED TREES IS SUBJECT TO PENALTY PER CITY ORDINANCE.
2.TREE PROTECTION SHALL BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF DEMOLITION/CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES AND
MAY ONLY BE REMOVED TEMPORARILY IF TRUNK PROTECTION IS INSTALLED. IT SHALL REMAIN IN PLACE UNTIL
CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY IS ISSUED.
3.NO MATERIALS, DEBRIS, EQUIPMENT, OR SITE AMENITIES SHALL BE STORED WITHIN THE TREE PROTECTION FENCE.
4.WHILE TREE PROTECTION FENCING IS IN PLACE, TREES SHALL BE DEEP-ROOT WATERED AT AN INTERVAL OF ONCE PER
WEEK WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE AT OR ABOVE 50-DEGREES F. TREES SHALL BE WATERED AT THE RATE OF 10
GALLONS PER INCH CALIPER.
5.TREE PROTECTION FENCING SHALL BE "ORANGE PLASTIC SAFETY FENCING," MIN. 48" IN HEIGHT, TOP SECURED TO
METAL T-POSTS WITH 12-GAUGE WIRE WOVEN THROUGH TOP OF FENCING FOR ENTIRE LENGTH.
-HEAVY DUTY T-POSTS SHALL BE PLACED SO THAT WIRE & FENCE ARE TAUT.
-CHAIN LINK FENCING IS RECOMMENDED.
6. TRUNK PROTECTION IS REQUIRED IF CONSTRUCTION OCCURS WITHIN TEN FEET OR LESS OF TRUNK. CONSTRUCTION INSIDE
CRITICAL ROOT ZONE IS ONLY PERMITTED WHEN EQUIPMENT IS OPERATED EXCLUSIVELY ON EXISTING HARDSCAPE,
AND NO SOIL COMPACTION TAKES PLACE.
