Subject: Harmony Rd. gap study
FYI:
A gap study was completed by Traffic Operations at the intersection of Harmony Road and Seneca.
Assuming that the pedestrian crosses one direction at a time and then has refuge, there is approximately
30' of pavement to cross. Assuming a crossing speed of 3.5 ft/sec(we ususally us 4.0), this requires
approximately 8.5 seconds to cross the travel lanes.
7:30-8:30
EB:79 gaps>10 seconds, average gap=17.5 seconds
WB:92 gaps>10 seonds, average gap=12 seconds
3:00-4:00
EB:98 gaps >10 seconds, average gap= 8.5
WB:109 gaps>10 seconds, average gap= 11 seconds
In each of the time periods and directions counted, there is more than 1 gap/minute for pedestrians to
cross.
