There are six (6) species of trees on site: linden, green ash, honey locust, pear, crab apple, and white ash. As depicted on the mitigation plan, a total of thirty-three (33) trees are to be removed. The reason for tree removal is due to the proposed development of Worthington Self Storage located at 2525 Worthington Circle. The site is currently a parking lot with a central landscaped median and several parking islands. Most of the trees to be removed are ash trees. Transplanting the trees is infeasible due to the proximity of the concrete curb as well as the threat of the emerald ash borer. The following trees are proposed to be removed: Tree #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10, #11, #12, #13, #19, #20, #21, #22, #23, #24, #38, #39, #40, #41, #42, #43, #44, #45, #46, #47, #48, #49, #50, #51, #52 (as associated with the Tree Mitigation List on the Tree Mitigation Plan). Further explanation for the removal of these trees is found below. Tree # 2. A green ash in POOR condition to be removed due to site development conflicts with a proposed detention pond wall’s construction. 4. A green ash in FAIR- condition to be removed due to the tree’s low likelihood of surviving post-transplant and overall susceptibility to the emerald ash borer. 5. A green ash in POOR condition to be removed due to the tree’s already poor condition and site development conflicts with a new wall’s construction. 6. A green ash in FAIR condition to be removed due to site development conflicts with a new wall’s construction and the tree’s susceptibility to the emerald ash borer. 7. A honey locust in FAIR condition to be removed due to site development conflicts with a new wall’s construction and the low likelihood of surviving post-transplant. To mitigate for the removed trees which have been deemed to provide significant value by the City Forester, replacement trees will be provided at the increased size per Division 3.2.1 (F)(1) of the Fort Collins Land Use Code.
