Dear Michael,
Thank you for meeting with me on September 15, 2022. I performed a Level One Risk
assessment of the Cottonwood tree located at the west end of Orchard Place, Fort
Collins, CO on September 13, 2022. This means I made my observations from one side
of the tree standing on the ground.
My observations include:
• the tree is in the latter stages of its life;
• growth rates are average for a tree of this size;
• there is weak attachment between the two main stems;
• the tree appears greener on the SE side of the tree, this could be due to access
to water;
• there are multiple dead and broken branches throughout the crown.
Based on the observations above, the tree appears to be in fair health and likely would
provide benefit for several years if left undisturbed. The degree to which the Orchard
Street extension will negatively impact the safe useable life expectancy of this tree will
depend on the amount of disturbance to the tree’s root zone and the pruning necessary
to provide clearance above the street.
