INFILL AND REDEVELOPMENT NOTE A.Despite everyone's best efforts, it is impossible to fully display subsurface information prior to excavation. This is especially true in areas of infill and redevelopment. Unknown subsurface conditions can have cost and schedule implications. Prior to finalizing contract terms, it is strongly recommended that the Owner and General Contractor have a candid discussion to formulate a strategy for dealing with such circumstances when they arise. The process and procures should be in place prior to excavation. Allowances and contingencies can address the cost implications, but additional measures are required to deal with scheduling and factors impacting sequence of work. The Architect, Engineer(s), and Construction Surveyor should be made aware of the protocol for dealing with such unknown subsurface conditions prior to starting work. TEMPORARILY DIVERT RUNOFF OR INSTALL SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES AS NECESSARY TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF SEDIMENT RUN-ON TO THE PAVEMENT. SURFACE PROTECTION COULD INCLUDE COVERING AREAS OF THE PAVEMENT, PROVIDING ALTERNATIVE CONSTRUCTION VEHICLE ACCESS, AND PROVIDING EDUCATION TO ALL PARTIES WORKING ONSITE.
