In response to the other items in your letter, first of all there will be no additional telephone lines requested as the residents will be allowed use of the existing telephone and will not need a phone in their rooms. In response to the question about the residents being able to leave the home unsupervised the answer would depend on their, level of physical and mental ability. if a resident is lucid, and physically capable of leaving then of course they would be able to freely walk about. On the other hand, if the resident is forgetful, likely to become disoriented, or has some other physical handicap which would prohibit them from functioning independently then they would require direct supervision should they wish to leave the facility. Pertaining to the questions concerning the mental health of the residents which were raised at the neighborhood meeting let me say first of all that we would not be able to accomidate Alzheimers afflicted residents nor, be able to accept the mentally ill. The residents we are going to have will be those who through physical or mental handicaps such as forgetfulness or senility need personal care in going about their daily functions. A typical profile of the type of residents we would have would be one who is becoming forgetful, perhaps not remembering their, name or their friends names, becoming easily disoriented. Also the resident would possibly require daily medication and medical monitoring by a health care professional such as my wife who is an R.N. to ensure their continued well being. Sincerely, DAg Merle
