I have reviewed the hazardous materials information on CBW and find no indication of expecially hazardous materials. As they indicate in their letter the products appear to be paint and paint related solvents and foam plastic compounds. These are common materials found in most industrial and manufacturing settings. These are however, flammable and combustible liquids, some with hazardous properties. Their use and storage will be regulated under the fire and building codes depending on their quantities. The information provided shows no indication of quantities. The information they provided was also only a portion of the material safety data sheets. In the future I suggest the entire MSDS sheet be sent as well as quantities. To my knowledge this firm, or its design representatives have not cotacted our staff for any preliminary design conferences. This situation raises the larger question of how we handle these issues of hazardous materials and land use. We did some preliminary work on this in 1987 with the intent of continuing it in 1988. Due to the LUST issue we didn't get to it, but plan to this year. In 1987 Ken Waido worked some with us and we intend to bring planning in again on this, maybe you also want to be involved. With the comercial neighborhood consciousness this is an issue we will see again. I'm sending over a copy of a report from the 1987 work which will give you some details. I have some ideas on this so maybe we can get together when you think the time is right. End of Item 22.
