HomeMy WebLinkAboutI-25 SECOND ANNEXATION & ZONING - 24-89, A - CORRESPONDENCE - STAFF'S PROJECT COMMENTSDevelopAt Services • Planning Department October 2, 1989 Captain Gary Coe Colorado State Patrol 201 14th Avenue Greeley, Colorado 80631 Dear Captain Coe: The City of Fort Collins has recently annexed Interstate 25 right-of-way located from north of Prospect Road to the Colorado and Southern Railroad, where it was contiguous to existing city limits (See attached annexation plat). The annexation was a "house keeping" action to bring the right of way, pres- ently in the Urban Growth Area, into the city. The process will assure that parcels on the east side of the Interstate will be annexed in an orderly progression rather than skipping over the Interstate. Due to the sparse development in this area and its remoteness from currently defined patrol beats, Fort Collins Police Services does not believe appropriate traffic enforcement and traffic accident investigation could be provided on this section of the Interstate. It is our request that the Colorado State Patrol continue to provide these services, until such time that future development warrants the consistent deployment of city officers to that area. Unfortunately the annexation was processed along with an introductory letter that erroneously indicated the city would be taking over traffic enforcement of the annexed area. We apologize for the confusion, and hope that we can rectify the situation so that the enforcement areas of each of our respective jurisdic- tions is appropriate and clearly defined. Thank you for your consideration of this matter. Please contact me if you need additional information to respond. Sincerely, Linda Ripley Project Planner cc: Tom Peterson, Director of Planning Dennis Whitesell, Fort Collins Police Department Wally Jacobson, State Department of Highways 300 LaPorte Avenue - P.O.
