Re: Foothills Unitarian Church Traffic Narrative Memo
The purpose of this memo is to outline the changes in operation due to the proposed addition onto
the Foothills Unitarian Church building.
Foothills Unitarian Church currently has a 15,000sf church facility with a sanctuary, social hall,
education wing and administration offices. The sanctuary seats up to 180 people, and before the
pandemic the church was holding three services on Sunday mornings with a total attendance of
approximately 300.
This project is a 15,000sf expansion, and includes a new sanctuary that will seat up to 400 people,
though it would rarely have that many (perhaps on festival Sundays only). The church anticipates up
to 250 people at two services on Sunday mornings for a total of 500 people on a typical Sunday.
The project converts the existing sanctuary into a Social Hall, and that will be used for gatherings
during the week, between services and after services, etc. These occupants will be the same as the
occupants already accounted for in the sanctuary.
The basement below the sanctuary will eventually contain more education rooms and a small chapel
to seat up to 100 people. But this is a future project and will not be finished out at this time.
The church does not generate a lot of traffic during the week. Before the pandemic there were
typically up to six people in the office during the week, and the church had periodic gatherings during
the daytime. In the evening there may be two concurrent gatherings of up to 20 people. The church
does not expect much change in this traffic.
This information shows that the increase in traffic will be minimal and only focused on service times.
