This is especially true in areas of infill andredevelopment. Unknown subsurface conditions can have cost and schedule implications. Prior to finalizing contract terms, it is stronglyrecommended that the Owner and General Contractor have a candid discussion to formulate a strategy for dealing with such circumstances whenthey arise. The process and procures should be in place prior to excavation. Allowances and contingencies can address the cost implications, butadditional measures are required to deal with scheduling and factors impacting sequence of work.
