Re: Walgreens, Harmony & Timberline
Dear Ted:
Thank you for the comments you provided in our October 24, 2005 concept review meeting regarding this
project. In anticipation of completing a formal submittal of this project I would like to petition your support for
the Walgreens double lane drive thru.
In the comments to that meeting a comparison was drawn between a drug store vs. a fast-food store and that
because of traffic volume differences the double lane drive thru on a Walgreens appeared superfluous. The
distinction between the two operations is accurate, but a more analogous comparison is that of drug store to a
bank. Most banks in Fort Collins offer multiple drive thru lanes, with the inside most lane dedicated to full
service transactions between a teller and the bank customer. The additional lanes are reserved typically for
unilateral or automated transactions. The double -lane drive through proposed by Walgreens will function in the
same manner, the inside lane is reserved for the exchange of pharmacy items, payments, and insurance
information with a pharmacy representative, while the outside lane is reserved for the customer who needs to
drop off a prescription for future pick up. The goal for both a bank and a Walgreens is to provide superior
customer service by minimizing wait times and tailoring the services of the store to meet the particular needs of W
the customer. Additionally, it is our goal that the double lane drive thru reduce the "auto related" feel of the ,L O
property by minimizing customer wait times and in turn multiple vehicular stacking that would occur if/
customers were limited to a single drive thru lane. jib
The double lane drive thru is extremely important to the store operations of Walgreens and I have enclosed a
letter from them soliciting reconsideration of your initial opinion. In our efforts to make the drive thru more
palatable we have placed the location of the drive thru almost 200' from the flow line of Harmony Road and will
also propose heavy shrub screening of the drive thru to minimize the sight of vehicles.

Please call me with your thoughts, or if it is more suitable, we can meet to discuss how you would like landscape
screening to be installed to minimize the sight of the drive thru.
